Yeah. Co-op financial results are a funny thing. You certainly don't want to see it make a loss, but you don't want it to make a big profit either. Somewhere just slightly positive is about right. Enough to cover capital repayments, and generally inspire confidence. Turnover is important. It's good to see the value of sales grow.

With lakeland the fore runner for a merger with lacPatrick the other coops will be flexing their muscles hard to look good in a bid to pick of the milk pool. Let's face it most of the coops all want to expand so they will be taking on anybody who wants to jump ship. Lakeland will not be the favourite for some producers going forward.

How long until base is 30p. Can't be far away. Got to be the Aug or Sept cheque latest surely?
You could be right. Makes a bit of a joke of the fixed price contract. Most contracts 3 years, surely more than a cycle. Were paid for x litres at 26.5 and then y litres at 29. So unless you've a calculator handy it's hard to tell how much of a bonus penalty you actually got. Dairies a step ahead all the time

Weather swung to their favour but the farmer needs higher price to cover all these variables, not to mention other bonuses that you don't get with the fixed litres. Another lesson learned.

The fixed deal may well turn out to be lower returning than the market. However, (and I'm not yet a fan of it), it's far too early to tell. So far we've only knocked 6 months off our 36 month contract. A lot can happen between now and the end. And to be quite fair to them, it was not offered in any way as the highest returning route either. It was designed to introduce an element of dependability, and to open a door to new customers for the coop. I think that's what it needs to be measured on.

I've no idea if another offering is coming for next year, but if it is, it might even be at a better price, if markets happen to firm between now and the end of the summer.
