Which cultivator

Hi all,
Looking at some sort of cultivator to quicken and cheapen my establishment costs of winter wheat and barley.
Nothing that’s going to break the bank. Always ploughed and Combi drilled.
What’s people’s thoughts on running through with a
Kongskilde Delta
Lemken smargrad
Kverneland clm
Type machine then combi drill behind it?
Or a set of simba discs?
Or a newer type short disc?
It’s a minefield out there.

Same situation here too. Looking for something to give ground an additional pass a day or two after plough in Autumn before combi drill and also the same on overwintered stuff in the spring.

Thinking short disc Helidor/Catros type machines may be the route to go but in what different(if any) situations are the Smaragd/Delta tine based machines designed to work compared to the short discs?

Got a few grass reseeds as well. I guess the bigger disc types such as Rubin are the way to go on those but are they too hard a pull on ploughed ground compared to smaller disc Helidor type? Will these lighter ones do a job on breaking up grass ley?

Iv got a smaragd (same as a konskilide delta,) to do exactly the same job. One pass on lighter land 2 at angles on heavier then ph combi. Cheap cultivator

I usually run a set of short discs over the ploughed ground before combination drill.saves a massive amount of wear on power Harrow tines as the job is pretty much done before you get the combi going so only really levelling the ground.can go a lot faster to saving fuel.can pretty easily do 10 acres an hour with my 5metre trailed short discs so don’t take long either

I think everything our way is working well off the top this year. Drilled some barley stubble yesterday that had been sub soiled and 'tickled, with the xpress. Hardly needed another pass but cot it and came up like powder. I have never seen land work so well.
Yep your right there, I pulled up some osr stubble yesterday and there a two, one acre patches of horrible tough yellow clay in this field, it worked beautifully, best iv ever known. Mind it did have a liberal dose of kalfos on so that may have helped.

I have a Rau Polymag, same as the one in the link above, but with Lemken feet on it.

Use it to level parsnip beds after lifting and running over stubbles.

Mixes things in very well and make a good job of leveling the parsnip beds. Two passes over them this year and we drilled spring barley direct into it with our any issue.

If ground is tight like now with it being so dry you will struggle to get it in the ground enough to do the best job so wait for a bit of moisture.

Not great on ploughed ground in IMHO, if run too deep will drag up trash.

Hi,
What’s that machine like at mixing FYM in that I’ve spread on the stubble?
Honestly iv not used it on fym yet. But it mixes rough field corners with crappy longer stubble in well. I can't see it being a problem. My neighbour has a heva disc roller that does a good job but I felt that our land wanted a tine to do some lifting of the soil. I paid less than a couple of k for this as I thought I could soon get my money back if it was no use, so far I'm very very pleased with it.

Not wanting to bore the forum with mentioning it again but I think our Wox Agri Supermaxx is b....y brilliant. Run over stubbles to get a chit without working too deep, will level ploughing and anything in between.
