I reckon anything made for air ratchets or cordless tools will be ok.ive never broken a socket in 40 years even with a large pipe on the t bar.have bent a few of those though

I've got snap on impact sockets and they are good for the job. Expensive but if you have some way of keeping them in order so you can make sure they are all there easy enough then it's worth buying good ones instead of losing and replacing with cheap stuff. Any impact sockets will do the job though.

Gedore and Elora were the best names back in the day but I dont know if they have kept their reputation ,probably made in china now and rebranded
I have some large Elora spanners I bought used off Ebay, the quality is superb, doubt they are chinese,Germany's finest.Father had a 1/2" Elora socket set which he gave a lot of work and no complaints . I see Draper tools sell them, they are seriously expensive.

I can't remember why or where but I believe Elora make some of the Draper expert stuff which is ok quality and not so expensive that you need to curse when you lose or break it.

Got hold of some Franklin Tools branded stuff lately, very pleased with it in general, but especially considering the low cost. Particularly impressed with the thin-wall impact sockets.

Father Christmas brought me a 1/2" drive impact set from halfords. It's 18 piece with sockets from 10 to 32mm and 2 extension bars. They're 45 pound if you don't believe in Father Christmas.

So why are impact sockets typically finished matt black, rather than bright chrome?

Is it simply because the chrome finish will flake off due to the beating they take?
Different metal ,,impacts are chrome molybdenum and other sockets are chrome vanadium ,,think the black is to distinguish they are impact ,,saying that ,,Halfords do a 200 set all in black
