SDs are outstanding....unsung top trump suckler.
Yes, they're about the quietest thing going.
Don't go too big (they are some huge lines in there) unless you really have the ground to carry it, don't overfeed em, and just let them do the work for you.
very good crossing element if thats where you're headed.

I disagree, boy near me has south Devons, altho the cows keep there condition the calf's and absolutely shocking, little runts that don't grow
Hfd x's are renowned for there mothering traits. Is the udder trouble due to having to much milk at calving due to spring grass or is your weaning process causing it.

Yes Hereford freisans were great until the Holstein came in
They would probably suit a char better if your selling store.
Any dairy cross will have problems if she is calving on the spring flush or being weaned without limiting her feed intake to dry her off. Better to have them calve down 3-6 weeks before turnout, then the calf is drawing on all four teats and can cope with the extra milk at turnout
