Suckler cow breed

Currently have HE x cows but not impressed with there Mothering in the first 24hrs and quite a bit of bag trouble. What replacements should I look at. Must be easy calving and fleshing.

I like the quiet temperMeant I was thinking along south devon lines I have a saler heifer coming through this year. Any thoughts on south devon.

SDs are outstanding....unsung top trump suckler.
Yes, they're about the quietest thing going.
Don't go too big (they are some huge lines in there) unless you really have the ground to carry it, don't overfeed em, and just let them do the work for you.

very good crossing element if thats where you're headed.
(a SD x Galloway is a hardworking upland cow)

I disagree, boy near me has south Devons, altho the cows keep there condition the calf's and absolutely shocking, little runts that don't grow

Hfd x's are renowned for there mothering traits. Is the udder trouble due to having to much milk at calving due to spring grass or is your weaning process causing it.
