There is a big difference between individual peoples salaries and a subsidy given to a business. The day the government hides how taxpayers money is handed out to private businesses is a bad day for democracy.
I trade as an individual so no difference, personnally dont give a monkeys but its the principle

Natural England running their own nature reserves, and claiming through their own schemes?
Oh?
And £9 million out of the york office..... that an awful big nature reserve.
It would represent a higher level claim on circa quarter of a million acres of upland SSSI in my experience.
It won’t just be on area payments, it will be for the own grants on regeneration of nature reserves etc. I don’t know the details of what it’s for, but I do know that Natural England do not send money to farmers etc directly. That money comes from RPA

I think it is fair enough to publish it, it's not that hard to work out what most farms recieve anyway.

A few years ago they did however stop publishing the Scottish data. Does anyone know why they have started again.

I'm very happy to be educated.

do NE own some 'nature reserves'?

or is this money somehow simply passing through their hands on its way somewhere else?

or do they rent some, and claim the payments in-house?

£9 mill is a whole lotta money.

And in referring to a quarter of a million acres, i'm extrapolating from large scale upland SSSI HLS' with which I am intimately acquainted, with all kinds of habitat works.

I'm sure there's a rational explanation, but I haven't seen it.

Don't hide it, but how can it be legal to put names and home addresses in?
Do individual benefit claimants payments all appear online, house by house, name by name?

What is the point, if it isn't to fuel envy and animosity?

There is a difference between an individual and a business. Even a sole trader is operating as a business, and the law of the land accepts and acknowledges such.

As for individuals' financial affairs being made public, that's a different debate. Personally I have no issue with everyone having to make their income and tax returns public, just so long as it applies to everyone; yes everyone, from the lowly teenager on an apprenticeship to the Prime Minister or a corporate CEO. If it applies to one it has to apply to all.

I can’t answer your questions, save to repeat that Natural England don’t pay for stewardship etc out of their own budget. Maybe it’s for the salaries of Nat England employees?

I had an inspection not long after starting farming and when I had very few entitlements bought - animal records. Mine were a bit haphazard, scattered across a few spreadsheets, and some things took a bit finding. After we finished and I passed, she gave me a row and told me to (rightly) get more organised, else I could be fined 3% of SFP. “What, £24?”, I asked...

I have a few more entitlements now, and take a bit more care over such things.
