Tyre disposal

was just thinking the other day why they don't use tyre to stop erosion or build flood defences
Big Tractor rears strapped together and placed strategically.... have been tried and been very successful on river bank erosion but I guess they didn't look very 'nice' so ea or rivers lot whatever ...wont allow them.

Had a firm in today to clear up old tyres and was very happy with the service. Some really old stuff and 40 odd big trailer and lorry type tyres

Grassman, glad you were happy with the service! We're just as happy, a cup of tea and help loading!
Farmer_joe, these tyres are being baled up as we speak and will be exported to India where they go through a process called Pyrolosis which converts all the rubber to oil and gas whilst leaving steel wire and the original carbon black. - Alex (Range Rubber UK Limited)

how far do you go to collect tyres, we have a few trailer ones to get rid of and a six tonne trailer ful of mainly 4x4 tyres that were dumped in a field, we are near Bath

We collect tyres nationwide so Bath is not a problem at all - I'm not sure what the rules are in this forum for sharing phone numbers etc. so I'll err on the side of caution and ask for you to find our number or email and I'll get you a quote!

I send a load in now and again to tidy up. It isn't a whole lot of money, and it's better than the swan vesta option, which might (rightly) land you in hot water.

speaking of hot water...a case down here a few years ago centred on these bales being used in various situations to get around landfill/disposal tax.
(Horsey menage banks come to mind)
The EA got after the perpetrators in a big way, and chased em to court.
When my dad got rid of a few hundred a few years ago, he used an official disposal company. Apparently they just baled them and then used the bales to make landscaped hills and mounds. There was also apparently a raised horse menage built from the bales.

Its a shame we don't do our own pyrolosis in this country with all our waste plastics and rubber.

I’ve wanted to see a ménage built out of tyre bricks. Heard it can work well but never come across one.
