FL2 have a very good record on reliability if serviced regularly with many hitting 200k miles and upwards. When looking for one 2 years ago there were loads for sale over 150k mile.
Wife bought a 09 automatic last year with 95k on the clock, seriously nice car to drive and one of the most comfortable cars to.

A lot of good reviews on here about them...

When was the FL2 introduced?

Edit, 2007, just found it!

2006 I think?

Find the FL2 ideal for the kids, all their carp, waterproofs/farm clothes for us all, wellies etc and a £120 aldi/Lidl shop and still space for more in the boot.

Launched in 2006 and available from 2007 according to Wikipedia.

The 2.2 engine is another €250 road road tax over the 2.0l here in Ireland, but the 2's suffer/enjoy a good premium over the originals which may be a reflection of their reliability.

Make sure to give it a good luck over I no someone who bought one as a winter car then got stuck in the first bit of snow

The propshaft had been removed making it 2wd likely to improve the mpg

General car with some light towing. Don't really want a big car TBH, but finding a compact tug is proving trickier than I thought.

I’ve had one and liked it very much, as stated before very reliable, possibly the most reliable of all LR’s.
Take a drive in one, you won’t be disappointed, especially if it’s an auto.

Very light towing I reckon. Son has one and it is a bit high geared for trailer manoeuvres. Customer has an auto which seem better suited. Quite a comfortable drive, heavier on fuel than a lighter car. Son has already had a few bills on his but I not certain the mileage is genuine. His Audi A4 1.9 estate clocked 220k miles with not much spent.

Is it a sure sign of madness to buy one? They don't enjoy the best reputation for reliability.

Don’t bother. A chap in our yard is a freelander specialist repair shop. I literally see hundreds every single year come in and go out. He says they are one of the worst vehicles ever produced for reliability.

I know a guy who worked for a LR dealer for 5 years who would probably agree with you. He said that the amount of warranty claims he saw in that time was unreal. However in all fairness that was a few years ago and maybe the situation has improved since then?

I have one. It’s a 59 plate HSE. It’s been great for us, bought with 35000 miles and now just over 100k. Nice and comfortable,is the right size not as huge as a disco to park in a multi story.Great on the motorway and nimble off road when I am shooting.

No serious breakdowns just wearing parts and regular servicing. Would happily have another.
