Sold to them for years but since Kepak took over the weights and grades have slipped south but getting a spanking in the mart at the moment so will see
I went last jan to st merryn and thought they hadnt trimmed as hard as they used to before the takeover but was dissapointed last month. Added to the fact dunbia pay to 22kg instead of 21 they will be hard to beat for the middle to lower end type lamb......but its best to send a load to st merryn then ,like me,you will get it out of your system!

Lancaster this morn all texel x

Was talking to someone who had fat beast in on Thursday
Reckoned they were £300 down on the same week last year
Stores are going to suffer
Just hope price of calves comes down a bit as well
But then that impacts on the rich dairy farmers;);)

Sold 42 stores in Darlo today, average £605. All of them will have taken money with them. Normally wouldn't of sold them for a few months. Won't miss standing around the mart taking punishment every week.

Sounds a decent trade all things considered.

Reality is that no beef animal regardless of system is showing anything like a profit with the current totally unsustainable prime price.

Have you many left to sell?

Good luck with the farm sale this Saturday @had e nuff

Store lmbs a bit better at Stirling, had some nice wee beltex, probably around 33kg, made 64£, happy enough with that, a bit rougher coated ones 57, they weren't big at spanning time. Get the most of what's left away next week, bar some old feeding ewes and 25 smalls, they can wait till after brexit.

Thank you, could just do with some dry weather before the weekend. Got 60 left to sell but they are getting smaller.

Have you much left to put out in the sale field?

How long can you hold onto the rest of the cattle?
Only a couple of trailers, straw blower and feeder wagon plus tractors to go out now. Made no mess yet but been a lot of rain last 48 hrs.
Not got a moving out day yet so will hang on as long as possible.
Keeping a tractor, spikes and bucket so can still feed them.

Had a quick trip in to Exeter this morning whilst my pick up was over the road at Toyota getting a SW upgrade...no lambs myself in but watch a few pens sold.

Not a huge number of lambs in:

43kg 66.20
39kg 60.50
48kg 75
51kg 78
44kg 72
47kg 75.80
48kg 74
43kg 64
46kg 74
47kg 72
50kg 69
44kg 70
38kg 60.50
47kg 68
47kg 79 (bloody nice char lambs )

Did not see them all sold, two main buyers not there, one of note is a buyer who buys nearly everything for export.

Nothing tearing then. How would that compare to last time you was there?

McCartneys ludlow reporting that abattoirs are not buying the amount of cattle they should because of staff shortages for jobs like boning out! I think its mostly a bulls#it excuse aimed at influencing brexit and perhaps they ought to pay higher wages imo. There will be plenty of beef farmers looking for jobs before long. Apply within!

These jobs have been done by foreign workers for a while now. Pound and worry of brexit means their not there to employ. British youngsters are going to have step up and do some of these jobs.
