Anyone having any trouble with mastitis at the moment?

This is tempting fate but not had a clinical case of mastitis since 10th March (only 80 milkers) and SCC yesterday's milk is 98 (rolling 12-month = 112). Now wait for a toxic ecoli.... which is what last 2 cases were!
It's a very general question, I read in to it that your having problems? Not sure why that would relate to anyone else. All relatively quiet here, but cells are sitting higher than I'd like

No more cases than normal, currently running at 16 cases/100 cows but of those 50% are usually ecoli and nasty at that.
We have been in discussion with our vet about the merits of startvac vaccine, don't know if anyone has any experience of it

Were doing better so far this winter.
Taking a more preventative approach. Sawdust with some lime mixed in twice a day and prills put down once a week.
We dont get any while out at grass so our mastitis is nearly always environmental.

We used it for about 18 months, we came off it in March, it's very expensive and we didn't feel it was cost effective.

it will work out around £20/cow/year with a 3 dose cycle, did you see any reduction/less severe cases ? were your cases mostly ecoli ?

Definitely worth it if you are having trouble with ecoli, we’ve just started using it seem to just shrug it off when you do get one

We were giving it 4 times a year.. We lost 2 cows with e coli in that 18 month period, not having lost a cow to ecoli in my recent memory. Otherwise the number of treated cows was much the same, our cell count did come down slightly but its always fine anyway.

Interesting why some farms have trouble with Ecoli and some don’t, it’s not something I’ve seen in over 10 years Dairy farming, do other low yielders not see it either?
Generally mastitis has quietened down here, had a few cases in August but that’s typical here, 3/4s of all the tubes I use will be at that time of year. SCC 86

Why August? Calving ? weather? seems an unusual time of year to have your main problem.

Yeah calve 2/3s of them in August, really makes me think I should just go 100% spring and be done with it but in fairness I even had two cases in the spring calvers this August so most likely weather related.
Coagulase-Negative Staphs, I hadn't heard of it until this summer and still wishing I hadn't

Our ambic teat sprayer stopped working in August, we were very busy with other jobs and it wasn't got looked about, scc and clinical cases have dropped a lot since then, they may not be connected but a huge coincidence surely. I wouldn't be brave enough to just stop spraying on my own bat.
