Wheel nut challenge!

These would be the sockets to use but I'm not sure even these would grip it as there doesn't look like much left.

I would say the only way to remove what is left of nut is push a short piece of steel tube over nut then very carefully arc weld nut to tube on inside of tube
Then the alloy wheel will not be damaged

Let's be honest wheel wont go any where with the other 4 holding it on
What about the possibility of having
Puncture on roadside
If that car was mine I would not use until that nut was sorted also I would check security nut on other 3 wheels
It looks like the nut has been over tightened

Use an air chisel with a sharp point.
Isn't it a rear wheel with a brake drum behind? Why not punch out the wheel centre and remove the nut and pull off the wheel and drum together? Grind off the stud head inside the drum and punch it through the rim from the back...........
Yes I'm thinking it might be possible to do that. It's a 2005 Ford focus, rear wheel.

Freelander 1 has been the worst - those spring steel caps soon rust on

As said before I'd be looking at undoing the wheel bearing nut under the centre cap. Hopefully you can get the dust cover off the hub centre ;) then pull the whole wheel and drum off complete , grind the end off the offending stud and knock it through.

My choice would be to remove the wheel and brake hub if possible first if not then get a mag drill clamp it to the wheel and drill the whole lot out. failing that I would be the grinder to the rim and cut the barsteward off, not difficult to get a replacement rim from a scrappy.........................................................

The ford 5 stud hub is a one part item, ie the hub and stub axle is bolted on. They’re not tappered roller bearings but a double row ball bearing. Best option is to drill into the centre of the stud and increase drill bit size intill the nut falls off. Then if it’s a drum and not disc the OP may well be better off having a set of new shoes ready to put on as getting the drum off usually damadges the lining on shoe due yo the step in drum
