Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

Looks like curtains anyway listening to the news. If they shut most if not all shops down then markets are all but gone.

Like I have been saying for days either the government will have to step in and set a min price for prime stock or bail out the beef/sheep and pig industry's with billions of ££s of aid like they are chucking at everyone else.

Just been told due to the virus sheep feed will rise in price either next week or the week after.

Will give it a week to 10 days to see how things are but if what I suspect will be the case, the feeders will be pulled out for the spring lambs, will wean anything we can and chuck the ewes on grass keep and put the lambs on red clover leys that were destined for first cut silage and forget about them for a few weeks.

Spoke to a large ish pig farmer earlier, he sells nearly all his meat as burgers/ hogg roast etc at shows/ events, all that is now gone, no one wants the pigs that should be going this week, he is very likely going to stop putting the boar in and cull the entire herd, his feed bill is 30k a month!

As much of a joke it is... I’m after another 150 breeding ewes for next year... didn’t want too but until July but if the price goes through the floor I’ll be buying early [emoji48]
I always thought if the floor fell out under the sheep job because of brexit i would be in to buy a flock of ewes. Unfortunatly whats happening today is what will happen next year with brexit, we cannot consume the lamb we produce but we cannot supply the beef we consume , hence why the beef trade will see less price drops if any now
