Where as yourself, was all over the media and standing up in parliament day after day, back in january, urging the government to get with your programme.
Heck. I reckon you were pushing Tony Blair, way back when, to get a warehouse stuffed full with thousands of ventilators........ Just in case?

No but we had customers who had tickets cancelled for travel to Saudi Arabia it was apparent that they were taking it more seriously then our government.

Maybe if your wife had to sleep in a cottage 2 miles away from home after work, away from her family you would understand.

My wife works for the NHS (gp) I personally asked a local dairy farm to donate gloves for the cleaners at the hospital, as supplies were so short a few weeks ago. For me that is poor planning.

We make ppe in this country all the government had to do was pump money into these companies back in December, it really isn't difficult.

I agree, but we didn't know December.
I believe that only about half of NHS staff are medically trained. Wouldn't some of the many managers be responsible for some forward planning?

We knew full well, unless no one had a television and didn't know a virus existed.

We still have nurses and doctors travelling in full trains and buses around London, has the mayor realised there is a virus going around?

We knew what in December?

On the afternoon of 30 December 2019, an "urgent notice on the treatment of pneumonia of unknown cause" was issued by the Wuhan Municipal Health Committee

On this basis, the government should have spent new years eve spending £'s making manufacturers get back to work?

I fully sympathise with your situation and for everyone who has had to put themselves at extra risk through an absence of supplies. I am sure that it would have been avoided if at all possible.

Tin hat on but the government have been totally useless. The local building and groundworks firms are operating here. They had the intelligence to bulk buy diesel, parts, ppe and extra welfare vans back in January, knowing full well that we would be facing a disaster.

In comparison, the government sent our NHS workers, supermarket staff, bus drivers and many other public services staff to their death, by not providing ppe or any risk assessment strategy. The advice changes on a daily basis, they make it up as they go.

Even their own staff don't believe them, just look at the chief medical officer in Scotland who stuck two fingers up at the guidelines.

Why supermarket checkouts did not have perspex screens fitted months ago is beyond me, a single infected checkout operative had the potential to infect a thousand shoppers a day.

As harsh as it sounds and I apologise to the loyal Conservatives, the government only started to take the virus seriously when politicians started showing symptoms themselves, before that point it was a case of lets adopt herd immunity, it will only kill off plebs.
yes your right a labour government would have been far better prepared, take the 2001 FMD outbreak for example the labour government was checking around for supplies to combat the disaster months before it "officially" started

Firstly I voted for Boris and hope he makes a full recovey. Secondly foot and mouth gave the government no prior notice unlike Corona which has been around for nearly 6 months.

Apologies, but I can not stand up for a government who sent doctors and nurses to the front line without ppe and made no provision for nursing homes where the most vulnerable patients reside.

Please back up the statement I have emboldened. I have been following this situation from the start and am entirely unaware of there being publicly raised concerns in October 2019, or in November 2019, or until the very, very end of December 2019.

nor can I

the labour government had plenty of notice before the FMD outbreak officially started but they had to wait to find an appropriate scapegoat before they could announce it had started to take the blame away from themselves and the fact that they let it out again

The government knew full well in December, they simply didn't inform the media to alarm the general public.

Not all of the governments work is exposed to the media for good reason.

The first case was recorded in China on 17/11/2019, Chinese doctors made the details public via the internet (they have gone missing since). The Chinese population also voiced concerns.

Is the budget aired in public before budget day?

Why should the matter be discussed in public to alarm the whole world. Are terror plots discussed publicly? Just because the BBC didnt run a report it doesn't directly correlate to our secret services and politicians not being aware.

SARS AND MERS didn't make it to our shores so why should the government have been that concerned on new years eve. Could have just been another Asian flu.

Chinese doctors raised concerns of the virus via the net in November 2019.I am sure our secret services will have taken note. Virus based warfare is taken seriously, so such reports must have made alarm bells ring.

Which is a long way of saying that you can produce absolutely no evidence to back your assertion.

Time waster.

Hi, just to comment on your point.

There have been a few radio 4 programmes past few days interviewing scientists involved with viral research to use a collective term. Thy have been saying that SARS and MERS were less deadly because the infection rate was very low. But the vorologist community have always been scared a new virus (which is CV19) could be different and with greater infectivity. This is why SOuth Korea had such an effective plan in place. Worth listening to a few of those programmes.

The impression is governments were not necessarily concerned as it seemed an unlikely event - except to those who understood the potential issue. But same could be said for many things. I doubt any would have been listened to if the had told Boris he should close airports and introduce lockdown. After all Mr Trump was a denier for many weeks.

Hey ho.

If you have the ability to use Google there are clear dates to back up that the virus was first confirmed in November 2019.

The garage have completed the service on the Hi lux so normal work resumes.
