Coming Home For Lambing.

My mob of ewes and lambs turned out of the yards is getting big.

down in to single figures at last, had a big en and small lamb yesterday. i can see finish line
Had sod all for days, still 11
We're down to 9 in the shed now but they've hit the buffers - nothing for 3 or 4 days.
The Herdwicks off the Warren, that are lambing outside, are spitting 'em out left, right and centre and look like they'll finish first

It's that quiet in the shed, the local wildlife have moved in..........

I have had the best lambing with very few ewe or lamb deaths and I have not had to pull a lamb yet this year.
First major issue today with a ewe with a partial prolapse. She was lieing down and straining and pushing it out a bit, then it would go back in. I tried to feel for a lamb, but could feel nothing, so got the vet out for the first time this year.
He had a feel around and decided it was a bladder prolapse and the cost of a cesarean and chances of success it was not worthwhile.
Luckerly she was a young XB ewe in very good condition so should be good eating.
I shot her, bled her and opened her up and pulled out two big healthy lambs. We got a good amount of colustrum milked out for the lambs first feed and now have two pets and a good sized carcass.
Wonder how she will eat and if stress will effect the eating quality.

sounds a very drastic measure for just a prolapse. Why didn’t you try a harness first?

pink nose lambed this mornin, and yes it has a funny looking bottom jaw due to someone's dog having a good chew on her just before she came in, patched her her best I could and happy she pulled through and now shes had her lamb.

The vet said it was her bladder proplapsed and could not get it out of the way to get the lambs out.
I have never had any ewes prolapse and have only seen one at a neighbours.
I have never seen a prolapse harness either.
Never seen a prolapse harness! I took 3 off this morning and put 2 back on! Fat mules with very short tails is my problem.
