Straw per ton 2020

Ah, the old livestock farmers can't afford it chestnut. I was with you for a few years, I really was. But after a decade of loading brand new John Deeres and new 28 ' Bailey trailers with my 20 year old Manipoo ( or 35 year old Sanderson if it breaks down ) the penny finally dropped. I for one ain't falling for it again.

They have to pay a fair rate or arable farmers won't want the aggro, I understand it completely. First thing is, oh can we leave the straw down for 2 days whilst it dries out, then no baler shows up and you are left with a real problem that delays everything else.

Did quite a few deals last Xmas. Then we had an early spring, so they f**ked off without paying nor collecting the straw. Now starting to get phone calls " you know that straw we talked about last Xmas ? ". Yeah I do. I sold it to someone else, who paid for it, and collected it....... ?

That kind of character you should shun and never deal with again. Life is too short for that.

Classic here is - it's going to rain hard tonight but we're still flat out on silage here so can you get all our bales shifted into one of your barns until we can fetch them?

Don't tar all us livestock boys with the same brush. The only Deere here actually does prance about!

Quite agree, it pays to look after your neighbours not ruin them.
So if straw goes to £150 ton and fuel prices are at near record low, just how are the burners making money?
Straw burning should be banned, with soil organic levels dropping off sharply cereal farmers are mad to sell it off without something coming back such as muck.
Burning organic matter is pure hypocrisy.
Add to that the burners only pay for what they take, not what they leave behind, enough straw around here left behind by the burners would make a livestock farmer weep in disgust, it's getting burnt now but with a box of matches to clear up the mess!

Unfortunately, Farmerdunk, some farmers' BPS still not coming until end of this month, apparently.
How is that his problem?? Pay the man, don't use him as an impromptu bank!

I don’t think it’s down to the BPS money. Have spoken and texted numerous times, the answer I get is, You’ll get paid at some point.

I even sorted the transport.
