Wheat seed rates

Planning to start on Monday with DD’d wheat. Seed rate will be on the higher side as DD is often a bit thinner/slower getting going heading into the winter.

55kg TGW so also fairly high. Not that I worry too much about TGW.

I’ve never grown skyscraper , but looks like it’s a high tillering variety . Interesting trials that show that often, better yields and less risk of lodging are achieved by lower seed rates.
I am growing Extase for the first time, and have been told not to drill that too early or too thick .

I used to be forever fannying about calibrating much to the old chaps dismay but now unless it's new seed/different variety or type and I need it to fit a field exactly or its hybrid which is too fudging dear to get wrong. I just go with a guestimate.

It's coming off the heap so what difference is a few cwt going to make and it always looks right come the spring.

200 kg at 56 tgw for 2019 seed
200 kg for 54 tgw for 2020 seed at 96 germ and 90 % field factor 320plants
notill and like a thicker crop
a thicker crop is easier to manage then chasing a thin crop
next week move to dryer farm so increase seed if the forecast looks dry

lower seed rates In the 1980s were For mid September Emergence and drilling
