Does it matter if the truck has to drive 15 miles and an hour around to collect 5 farms instead of 5 hour round trip to collect one large one.....and pay them a volume bonus?

Hi fellow farmers, Appreciate your feedback on this!
Given the highly milk quality farmers have to provide, would it be beneficial to you to have a monitoring unit on your milk tank update you after every milking session about fat,protein & SCC changes?!

I totally agree but will be a sad day when the last <150 cow farm packs up due to milk buyers not being interested with anyone less than 500 cows and there are entire counties without a single dairy farm.

How long until ‘open book’ contracts are mandatory with milk buyers to check dairy farmers aren’t making too much profit.

Define cheap. Given that a used 5 ton milk tank would cost around €4k + €3k control unit, how much range would be acceptable for such additional unit?!

What do you mean Going? it’s been a case of location location location since I started milking 18 years ago,I preferred milk quotas over the dairy’s quota system we have now.

Control unit normally comes with the tank not an extra put an advert in the classifieds

Not so much of an issue here I must admit but I suppose north Cumbria/sw Scotland is a big field and there’s plenty of tankers running around albeit on some pretty shoddy roads.

Yes, in case of new one. In case of used, it is usually faulty or in bad condition. I try to get feedback if such solution could help you improve your pricing by few cents every time.

What any farmer rep has to realise when in discussion with milk buyers is that if they keep penalising the "bottom" 10% that one day they will be one of the "bottom" 10%!
