Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

The estate next door bought 550 big lambs from skipton in the summer, the buggers chased the quad that was driving opening the gates for 3 miles waiting for some food to be dropped. I couldn’t open the gates because they kept mobbing me! 😂
We used to sell them with no hopper/feed
The buyers we had liked them like that because they did well for them
We couldn’t do that now get laughed out the mart

The sheep trade just keeps on giving. It really is quiet a surreal feeling at the moment, as if we are all climbing the mountain in the fog and no one quiet knows how much further there is to go, how steep its going to get and quite where the summit is.
Again it was Ms Jojo, Boscar Flatts that topped the day at £155.50 with other pens at £154.50 £151 £148.50 £147.50 £146.50 £145.50 £144.50 £143.50(3) £143 £142.50(2) £140.50 £140.
Jill Jacklin, Lidds Farm also broke the £140 mark on several occasions £143.50 & £140.
Topping the Pence Per Kilo also Jojo at 353.4ppk and 351ppk.

There's definitely a good number of lambs on roots, but nothing like the numbers there would be in previous years for 10th January.
Everyone including myself have less....reason was ,firstly stores were what we all thought to dammed dear and secondly we all had a bit of Brexit fever....another reason is many sold a lot harder than normal....farming the lambs through the season with that in mind..hence we are where we are...with these high prices potential breeders will be killed...making their being less breeders around...all said and done...what the hell do i know

of course in a normal year supermarkets would be sucking in NZ product when shortages occur , can quite see that happening by easter , best get as much gone in next month or so , then dig into replacement ewe hoggs if , shortage of imported

How the buyers are going to react to falling numbers is anyone's guess??

Short term...there will be a mad scramble to secure supplies and prices will lift.
Longer term... retailers will push consumers towards other products, that give them better margins, reducing lamb market share in the future. Increased exporst will go some way to make up for that, I hope.

Make the most of it. :)

I think you're right- it'll peak then drop off as they fold their arms and sit the job out.
