I'm reliably told by a 50-something that some areas are now vaccinating the 50-somethings. It's all down to the local demographics.
My informant has had the first jab already ~ works in healthcare ~ and is looking forward to the second.

Nothing to do with age then - I know 20-somethings being vaccinated because they work in healthcare.

Ah, sorry, wasn't clear enough ... She had her jab a few weeks ago, because of her job, yes.
It's other 50-somethings who aren't working in healthcare, or don't have underlying health problems who are being vaccinated in her area.

They did the local Firemen in January here. My wife was helping out that day.

I'm designated carer for my parents, and so as of yesterday in Northern Ireland, I'm eligible for a jab (any carer over 18).

Been online four times today and can't get an appointment.

68 thousand people sadly died.
2018 64 thousand sadly died in Jan
So about 130 more per day
Need to factor in demographics to see which month really worse, but not much in it

As I said before, it is not the number of deaths but the clogging of the hospitals. If you came up with an accurate figure for hospital bed occupancy it may make more sense.

The highest number in hospital this Jan was 38,800 with covid

Pointless doing a comparison when so many variables were different. Lockdown plus other countermeasures undoubtedly reduced transmission to the extent that hospitals were thankfully still able to function, but who knows what would have happened otherwise. With a large proportion of available beds in use for Covid alone, it wouldn't take much of a bump in R to push us into a bad situation.

They must be as nobody has died from common flu according the BBC. It must be true because they said it was. Masks and lockdown forever from now on. We'll own nothing and we will be happy.

Effectively the same people are dying of the same thing, in the same numbers as normal.
I just don't remember the headlines about daily death numbers 3 years ago.
Did those people not " sadly die"?

So, is clear that people are not dying of covid but of old age or severe underlying conditions.
In the same numbers as usual, in the same way...i.e. succumbing to whatever respiratory virus is around.
