Yep, slots closing ok, 30mm into moisture.
Got about 3mm last night, looked like you were getting more, looked very black over your way from down here.

Only got more where we were trying to finish drilling near Scotch Corner! Even the fertiliser spreader wouldn't travel on that first thing this morning.

I'm sure I started a thread on here last year, but can't find it, nor remember the replies.......

Spring barley. Half the fert went in the seedbed. What to do about the rest, given no rain forecast for the rest of the month.
Slap it all on anyway.
Little and often,
Wait for proper rain, even if it doesn't arrive till mid May ?

If it’s that dry I would wait. You have to ask yourself what are you gaining by letting it sit on top of the soil for several weeks?

Urea or AN? Malting or feed?

I’ve done half mine on the seedbed and will wait until it has emerged before doing the rest.

Winter wheat has had 2 doses already and I’ll wait for rain in the forecast before the final dose. The agronomist wants me to split the final dose but I’m not keen on an extra pass. Winter osr and winter barley are finished.

Just taking one of my lads down to Sheffield childrens hospital and there is some good corn but also some very sad looking stuff also some fields of spring barley with big chunks that hasn’t germinated yet

This happened last year after we drilled maize. Didn’t germinate for weeks until we had an almighty thunder storm one Sunday afternoon . Grew very fast then as it’d been so warm .

Was planning to start last Friday. Would have been the earliest in this area for decades. Normal start is the last few days in April. Drill was hooked up and filled up but started raining which wasn’t forecast. Rained on and off all Friday dried enough to spread fertilizer Sunday but light rain turned to snow which turned to a near blizzard. More snow now than we’ve had all winter and forecast is for ten days of cooler than normal weather.

Five miles off the centre of Canada. Manitoba. It’s a roller coaster for weather here but when Mother Nature is in a good mood it’s a fantastic place to farm. Flatter than you can imagine and not a hill for an hours drive in any direction. Jet black heavy clay that’s super sticky.

Slapping it all on here. Can’t see any point in waiting. Can then give the spreader and tractor a proper clean and put it away. Move on to another job without the hassle of hitching it all up again, setting up, remembering where it ran out last time etc. I’ve been over some of it 6 times already with the spinner this spring. MOP, Kieserite, TSP, Salt, and two doses of N on the beet. Cereals minus the salt. It’s ridiculous but blends seem to be megabucks and not quite what I want.

Do others use blends? We used to have 0 24 24 but even that commands a serious premium here now so just use straights. But it means many trips over and hammering the tramlines. Must be a better way.

The other thing we find with blends is our spinner is good at separating them out, heavy stuff granules like MOP going further out than TSP prills. Anyway nearly finished for this year.

Buy a blender and mix your own most of our fertilizer here is in bulk from a local distributor. They will blend what ever you want. Even an old feed mixer wagon could blend a few bags into what’s needed.
