Such a true statement. I would love some science on how much phosphate in water is caused by the huge amount of erosion caused each year on rivers ,streams which act as tributaries to these major water bodies. Caused by the lack of maintenance from the EA.You see therein lies the problem.

“Lot of stuff online about it” …….. there’s plenty of “stuff” online about a lot of things, doesn’t mean it’s true.
It’s too easy for agriculture to be made the scapegoat, say these things often enough and it suddenly becomes the accepted norm even if there is no evidence for it.
We need to understand where all the sampling points are in relation to sewage discharge points etc.
It’s really important we remain objective and challenge unsubstantiated claims. Even if it’s not in our area it is important that as an industry we stand together. The issues you face and may be responsible for are very different to those I face in my area.
Let’s not give those who wish to regulate us unnecessary ammunition from ill thought out comments and evidence. All IMHO.

I was trying to see it from another point of view, and I have actually been down there and seen some of the stuff that goes on (and seen farms that are doing a very good job to stop it happening).You see therein lies the problem.

I cannot defend some of the things that happen in this industry.
One of the main reasons we get regulated is because we do not take ownership of when we do cause problems. Just get the usual ‘thank a farmer’ and ‘leave them to starve’ rubbish churned out.
Why not stop it at source as well.
That’s up to the farmers who aren’t taking the measures to stop their soil and nutrition leaving.

You cannot only blame it on that. There is many factors at play including, not not solely, farmers.
That doesn’t answer the question though does it. There needs to be a two way street in all of this and the EA’s lack of responsibility is a route cause. But is conveniently ignored by some.
Yes, exactly the point really, many aren't BASIS (especially grassland), FACTS, etc etc. You are making a big assumption that others are like you in your area........ come to North Yorkshire, especially the grassland areas........
Yeh, because the EA have been clearing trees out of rivers for tens of thousands of years….

Tell you what, I'm in favour of nutrients staying in the field and having watercourses without pollution.

Yes but not at 20t/ha on heavily cultivated slopes fields…
But it wasn't the same, as roaming beast didn't leave the same footprint on the tundra etc as intensified farming and synthetic fertiliser..
I appreciate that, but it’s not a one size fits all issue. I think the nvz closed spreading dates had the balance about right. Not many slopes in Norfolk either.
