The future for Phosphate restrictions concerns me more than Nitrogen actually. Many farms on sands or where history of chickens/pigs have P indices 4 or 5 on some or all fields. Now that would put cat among pigeons if those fields became unusable for manures for in effect decades. Just thought would lob in that little Gem!

Very good point. Mixed farms with a n intensive livestock enterprise that have utilised their manure for years will likely find they have P&K levels in excess of index 3. In these situations no application can be justified. 🤦
What’s going to happen to all the 💩?
Or is it, as some have suggested, an underhand way to decimate livestock production?
The issues raised by this are simply huge and the level of common sense being portrayed is woefully inadequate.

Funny old world, isn't it. Last night I thought would watch good 'ole boy George Monbiot Rivercide vid. Posted a link a way back in this thread. He set about his task with gusto. Basically outing the chicken boys along the River Wye. Chastising the Welsh Government whose minister mumbled about the desire to encourage diversification among farm businesses as a sort of excuse for allowing and encouraging farmers to go down this polluting route. Was a bit like the current government apolgising for slave trading 200 years ago. And slapped the face of Noble Foods and the Happy Eggs brand. Monbiot on top form! He does make his points well. And as usual he has a cohort of worried, concerned middle class well pensioned Prius and now full EV folk in tow to be interviewed. But at no point does he actually talk about the folk, the ordinary folk who eat the chicken and eggs produced. Geore cares about the environment - and good for him, but always seems to lack any idea of where the food will come from instead. Nor the economics that have led to larger more cost effective production sites. Presumes maybe it grows on Waitrose selves? Ah well.

This is where Monbiot and the government have similar aims. Both wish to make livestock farming unviable in the UK. Monbiot would have us all vegan whilst the government are happy to move the emissions to another country. Neither really make sense.

Yep as I’ve been saying for a few years this country is only going to be producing organic on the very best land. The rest will be in a scheme so that our government can produce very low pollution figures whilst increasing OM in soils and be a world leader in carbon credit trading.
The bulk of our food will come in via the various trade deals since brexit.

It’s all been the grand plan for years in the making.

Also no applications on any land any time if index of 3 or above so all livestock farms are going to have to find a home for their waste basically.
