Think majority of farm staff would be very disappointed on a profit share agreement and that’s not because their boss is running a 5hit show or buying new range rovers to hide it from the tax man.

must be slightly different down south but you would never find anything like those wages in the north. Maybe it’s on different scales but there is a shortage of ag workers round here for one reason.

Ag wages are sh!t just the amount of hours make up for it my mate works in a butchers he’s on 3.50 an hour more than me and I’m running a 350 head dairy herd he’s putting pies in bags

a lot of farmers are selfish and think they are being hard done by in every case. Sure 90% of farmers have a house bought by the farm, vehicle bought through the farm and generally supported by the business. Farmers mostly have some form of asset to fall back on if needed.

You need staff to help make your business profitable than they need the £10 an hour.
The farming industry then wonder why workers go drive loadalls on construction sites for £15 an hour doing 8 hours a day.

In a roundabout way it’s only on a farming forum would you get posters quibbing why someone would want more money!! As it’s been said it’s a very small minority of Farmers who have to live off a wage off say sub £1500 a month to pay for everything they have, need and want! Things including vehicle, rent or mortgage, all fuel, all food, all clothes, all everything! Nothing from the co-op, no fuel from the tank, no jumping in the farm pickup, no water to the house from the farm meter, no electricity from the farm sheds etc etc

Yet look what the average £/kg of fillet steak has done in the last 20 years compared to the price/kg of deadweight.

I could but why should I when I’ve the skills to run a herd very well I don’t think it’s ridiculous to think I should be earning the same or more quite honestly

because job satisfaction is as important to some people as wages are.

I would love to still work in core ag sector but I just can’t afford to for the life I want.

you wouldn’t still be farming if you didn’t love it

The money they earn in this country has real value back home and that’s why they work so hard.This country is getting totally out of step on wages or is it we just have so many hands held out taking our wages.

Autumn block cows doing 8500 to 9 staff there’s me a general farm worker and a semi retired tractor driver who does 3 short days a week
