Extase potential problems

Not wheat I know, but I had major problems with KWS Amistar last year due to frost. 75 acres pretty much wiped out by frost during flowering. Some varieties of cereals are obviously more susceptible than others, the problem is you don’t always know until it happens.

Finally started cutting wheat today and took off three fields of Exstase. I know its early days yet and we have more Exstase to cut along with our Graham. However, early indications are of disappointment!!!!
First three fields only averaging around 8.5 T/ha
I wouldn't think that's bad tbh. We all expected more before a miserable May....

It may yet prove to be reasonable for the year. But it’s below our average and expectation for first wheats.
Time to evaluate properly when harvest complete. The bigger issue for today is waking up to MORE b****y rain 😡

To be fair like, Extase was never touted as a high yielding variety and in the west at least Graham should outyield it. Point is, if the crop of Extase had received no fungicides it would still yield around 8.5 t/ha: can't say that for many other varieties.
On the other hand in the far south west you can't take advantage of its low cost agronomy, so I suppose you are right to question its place.

I have circulated a link for this thread to (former) colleagues, they've not seen any examples yet.

Would have to be a serious plague of OBM to reduce yield to the extent talked about.

That's what I always felt about it. Where's the saving from extase for those who always need to do a robust t1 and t2? May as well find another high yielder and spend the fungicide money and get lucky some years if you decide to drop a fungicide if the weather looks good.

Well yesterday we moved from Extase into Firefly (another variety with the sword of Damocles hanging over it) and it’s running almost 2t/ha more than the poor Extase field next door🤷🏻.

Not sure on the frost thing, we had 22 frosts in April, with several nights down to -5,+ 5 in May, with the lowest temp in May also -5.

What I have noticed is, of the three field of Extase harvested so far, 2 were drilled with undressed home saved seed and the third with dressed new seed.
Field1- 8.5t/Ha ( if I’m charitable)
Field 2- 12+t/Ha
Field 3- 10+t/Ha
Guess which was the disappointing field ?

Was it the new seed? That would be interesting if those who had duff crops all had the same.

Time to get the bag labels out? The more you look at seemingly random or unlinked events, often a pattern occurs.

This was something I was wondering. Are the people how are having problems using FSS or certified seed?
Would be interesting to find out if there any coronation.
Still to wet to cut anything here but I did stick my nose in the Extase and couldn’t find any heads stuck up at all!

Our extase has been good 10t/ha but I will look on yield maps and ask dad combine driver if there was any weird bits in frosty areas

Are people finding any differences in drilling date?
We haven't done any yet but late Sept extase looks like more black heads than the Oct drilled stuff.

You are correct.

We have one more field of Extase to harvest, drilled with fss, if this were to yield well ?
