Just like every other company that used furlough to kill supplies. When they restart everything will be in demand and double money. Thing they didn’t bargain on is furloughed staff getting a second job (loadsa money) or retiring and probably not going back to their original job they were furloughed from. Essentially these firms shot themselves in the foot.

allowing workers to get a second job while on the COVID dole was the biggest mistake IMO.
@milkloss - It might have been that people that were doing a really good job in a bad place and were underpaid got a better job, somewhere that appreciated them and paid right. When COVID was over they decided not to go back.

Some jobs seem to have suffered in the reboot that COVID caused, people found better things to do to earn their wages. I'm guessing it isn't benefits - but I am not sure what it is.

Classic irony from the BRC this morning, "warning" that the UK needs more drivers than the government is letting in; when it's the supermarkets themselves who have driven the drivers away in the first place through low wages and poor conditions.

I suppose you could make it up, but even so...

driven them away - you mean pay a better wage? enticed them with gold i would say.

Mainsteam media need a shooing for the way theyve whipped this up.

So say if we were to put red in said 4x4s because we can’t get fuel to work. What occurs then
Haven't read right to the end yet so it might have been answered but during foot and mouth we were allowed to put read in farm vehicles, amount had to be recorded and the correct tax/ duty was worked out by the accountant with the vat returns and paid accordingly..

There has been a widely publicised open letter on facebook, descibing why one HGV driver will not be returning to the job.
It lists the appalling state of facilities in the UK for drivers. Being charged £40 a night for secure parking with filthy showers and toilets not fit for anyone to use. Food again being the usual fried fair from the greasy spoon cafe.
He compared it with life on the continent with truck parking free, clean facilities and a high quality menu at subsidied prices.
Who would want to be away for all week from the family, in those conditions for any money really, unless you came from a home where a shower and WC were considered a luxury not an essential. Where people can work for a few years and return home to build their own place with the proceeds of living in the truck 24/7 and toilet out of the window

maybe.... same outcome. Some people started a new company and re-employed the same guys at half wages...... while they were still getting 80% from gov. Wrong imo.

Who the hell would want to drive a truck in the UK, full stop. Choked roads, narrow streets, double parking, no facilities, before being treated like sh!t by customers and employers alike.
