Quitting smoking

I did it with Alan Carr. I went to a morning session and have been free of the fcking things for 20 years.

At Alan Carr they don’t talk about why you should give up, you know that, but what keeps you smoking. Once they’ve explained how the trap works, you’re free

I smoked 20-30 a day, at today’s prices I’ve saved £85000, and it’s not just with money you pay

I eventually managed to stop (60 a day) by using very strong gum, chewing a wee bit when the urge was overwhelming. 17 years later I still like the smell of cigarette smoke though.....

If you can't go cold Turkey then vaping is the next best option. Only really another addiction truth be told but far better for your health.

did the Allen Carr thing which I thought was a waste of time..... Mrs tried hypnotherapy which was a laugh a minute and even worse!

I’ve tried numerous attempts in the past, vaping lasted a few years but I went back to smoking during a stressful time. I’ve since quit on a tablet prescribed by the nhs. The first time like a fool I thought I could just have one so rightly so the nhs made me reapply. While this wait was happening I found the tablet for sale online and purchased it myself. Be warned it’s dear but a lot cheaper than smoking in the long run. The second time it worked and I haven’t touched one since. The lads smoke in my works van and it really doesn’t bother me, occasionally especially if someone sparks a lambert and butler or Richmond I admire the smell. But I’ve gone from a 20-60 a day to smoke free and feel a lot better for it. Google champix it was great for me

Be careful of champix. I'm glad it worked for you but I have heard of it affecting peoples mental well being very negatively in the past. I believe they were predisposed to it already but still something to be aware of.

I decided I would like to have enough breath left in me to be able to play with the grandkids so I stopped smoking. Just stopped.
Not much fun for a week or two but no big deal if you can just keep saying no.
That was maybe 10 years ago, not really sure and it doesn't matter anyway. Still have the urge at times but haven't succumbed and easy not to. Missus still smokes and it doesn't bother me.
The key to it in my opinion is to have a reason to stop or just be determined to stop. Don't stop and kid yourself one won't harm because you are right back at the beginning if you do.

By the way, my lad didn't even have a girlfriend when I decided never mind having any grandchildren.
Got grandchildren now but too feckin fat to play with them! :D (not really)

Champix worked for me as well.... But some of the Dreams/Nightmares were the wackiest things I'd ever experienced whilst on them.

Dad stopped by cleaning his teeth every time he got the urge. Carried a brush and t/paste in his shirt pocket. That was in 1941.
The little one smokes even though his parents don't and his grandparents don't so I have no idea why he started.

I tried cold turkey various times for about 10 years. Never lasted more than 36 hours. Kept putting it off because of occasions time of year etc. Eventually I plucked up courage went to doc and said wanted to stop. Asked what I wsnted I said try patches and the inhaler thing at the time . This was before vaping days . They did help but I was still smoking but less. Went to get repeat prescription at chemist and they did a review , turned out my doc had given me the last stage patches not the stronger first ones, got sorted out with new patches and they just took the edge right off, still was bit of mental battle though but not smoked for almost 10 year now.

I smoked 40 a day at the end . Started with 20 Woodbines a day in the Army , On to Players when I was a bit better off . Got to 40 a day , Missus , Mother and Dad all smoked too . Had a bad coronary attack , with a multiple by-pass to follow . "Knife man " at MRI , gave us a talk before we left , - Quite instructive I think . "I won't tell you anything about fats , dairy , red meat etc , except to say moderation in such things . But what I will say is , if you smoke , give it up , if you don't it'll kill you . DO you smoke ? " "I don't now " That was Year 2000 - new century - new heart ! You need a good reason to give up . given that, it's easy ! We all of us gave up at the same time , and none went back - Well, my mother did a few menthol ones , but she said that didn't count .

Been clean for 19 years after 40 a day habit

Problem is, I would still have one if I thought about it.

Was on rollies. Threw the tin in the ground and cold turkeyed
Roll ups are an easier way to stop as you have to physically make them and I believe that they are less addictive than pre-mades
