I do not agree with much of what you normally say but you are bang on here. I have seen it first hand and it makes no difference what the type or politics of the organisation are. And sadly I think we are in a time when 'good men' or 'good character' are non existent. The best I have come across are always doubtful of themselves and concerned by their own biases, the officials, politicians etc of toady are convinced of their own views. Oh dear.

Not @Grass And Grain 😃

@Clive could take the job and then bring them down from the inside…!

do t be daft the NFU have already organised inserting a “on message” replacement into the role. I‘m told Alistair Macintosh, Former nfu livestock board chair, currently Rt beef/lamb sector chair will be backsbber blenky’s replace

In a year where Nitrogen fertilizer is £650/ton I reckon there may not be a huge quantity of milling wheat grown as it needs extra N to boost milling quality

now I don’t know the figures but I’d bet U.K. won’t be self sufficient in milling wheat next season

so that will be interesting
Foolishly ime growing it and have fertiliser, not as cheap as last yrs unfortunately

Exactly but only for a period. I’m no fan of the NFU and I’m not going to pretend that Clive’s revolutionary overtones don’t make me salivate… but it might be a case of being careful what you wish for. All organisations wielding power end up attracting the same types of people who are currently leading the NFU and RT. How do you stop that from happening? Can you?

power corrupts over time, no doubt about that whatsoever and agriculture has reached a level of corruption that has become intolerable now

opposition is important to hold those in power to account, opposition/ competition has been completely missing from Uk agriculture until recently

You don't have to take the gravy.

Some people actually do these roles because they actually want to make a difference and be involved in decision making.

Majority don't do it for the gravy.

rubbish Sid, it’s how it should be and I believe where most start but the power and money corrupts.

I’ve seen it first hand so many times, I’ve even been taken aside and told how well I could do personally if I was just a little’nicer” “quieter“ etc or “used my position appropriately“ etc

there are others on this forum who have had similar chats or witnessed such conversations with establishment @ajd132 @Chris F etc

it’s rotten to the core and needs to change, Red Tractor is just the tip of the iceberg

Do we need opposition or just a method by which we can hold those at the top to account?

either is better than nothing

we have a method now - social media, it’s asking a lot of very awkward questions and we are seeing them crumble when unable to provide a straight or credible answer. NFU are loosing members who are voting with their feet as now aware of what’s going on and Red tractor were unable to push through their gold plating plans this spring in face of a clear building revolution by farmers, we have also cost RT 250k of AHDB funding this year. ……….. and we are only just getting started, there are ongoing complaints to ASA being investigated involving large supermarket customers who will not be amused by the mess RT false claims will have created for them I’m sure and we have some shocking emails accessed under a freedom of information request between AHDB and RT we will publish soon

actual opposition is not really possible, the barrier to entry has been created so high that it’s almost impossible so holding to account is the method we choose

Well I am outspoken and say it as I see it, I have never been taken to one side and spoken to or told to be nicer or quieter.

Perhaps the SW are used to a more militant membership?

One sip and they are addicted [take yourself for example]
even have it on fresh new spuds when all it does is detract from the flavor, good and thick so you have to scrape it out the pan :ROFLMAO:

Do you actually know what "gravy train " means?

Seems to be banned about without posters actually understanding what is means.

….and the more crap gets thrown in farmers direction making the job harder and harder, more paperwork, more rules, low prices etc. the less time and strength they have to be able to see the wood for the trees, let alone fight back.

So the spin is "Mr Mackintosh will formally take up his new position in November, when fellow farmer Andrew Blenkiron’s second term comes to an end after almost eight years"

That’s the name I was told as well. Can someone remind me was Ali Mac a big supporter of whole life assurance for the livestock sector? If he was he will go down well with the beef and sheep boys and girls 🤦
