So the spin is "Mr Mackintosh will formally take up his new position in November, when fellow farmer Andrew Blenkiron’s second term comes to an end after almost eight years"

So he didn't resign, he decided not to stand again.

Sounds like someone has been putting a whole load of spin on his decision!

I smell 🐮💩

it’s doesn’t really matter imo - the NFU are quickly only becoming relevant to themselves

themselves being a rapidly decreasing numbers of actual farmers anyway
When I came to renew my NFU insurance a month a go
I was warned that going forward I was at risk of losing
my nfu mutual bonuses if I didn't join and become a member.
I thought the two were seperate entities ?
I haven't joined but my bonuses are substantial .

He was a dead man walking in his role for many SW farmers after his performance and outburst at the RT meeting held at Cullompton a few years ago. He didn’t gain many friends from this area that evening.
No doubt he was, but he hasn't resigned, he has decided not to stand again.

Stuart Roberts hasn't resigned from the NFU he has decided not to stand again.

The negativity over AB's comments and the way he performed would have influenced his decision.

Yes I got that from a journalist friend I messaged last night. That's the official line

In a year where Nitrogen fertilizer is £650/ton I reckon there may not be a huge quantity of milling wheat grown as it needs extra N to boost milling quality

now I don’t know the figures but I’d bet U.K. won’t be self sufficient in milling wheat next season

so that will be interesting

I found this:

When you look at who "Global Food Security" are, it appears to be mainly governmental departments ...

Glad he has resigned. Hopefully there will be an apology in with it. It is what should have been done at the time. Was a silly thing to write, but doubling down was ridiculous.

the real question is if he is now able to get another job on the gravy train.

and of course, which NFU person will the NFU put in to replace him.

Just a small point, but I do feel that NFU Cymru paid staff are providing an invaluable service to their members and I am loathe to see them tarred with the same brush.

The Office Holders are just mouthpieces really ....... bit like ministers

Imagine if there was a Boris type freelancing as NFU President .....

either is better than nothing

we have a method now - social media, it’s asking a lot of very awkward questions and we are seeing them crumble when unable to provide a straight or credible answer. NFU are loosing members who are voting with their feet as now aware of what’s going on and Red tractor were unable to push through their gold plating plans this spring in face of a clear building revolution by farmers, we have also cost RT 250k of AHDB funding this year. ……….. and we are only just getting started, there are ongoing complaints to ASA being investigated involving large supermarket customers who will not be amused by the mess RT false claims will have created for them I’m sure and we have some shocking emails accessed under a freedom of information request between AHDB and RT we will publish soon

actual opposition is not really possible, the barrier to entry has been created so high that it’s almost impossible so holding to account is the method we choose
You say "we also cost RT 250k of funding". We didn't cost RT a penny. We cost the the non farming union the 250.
Perhaps we should stop referring to RT as though they are an independent company. It's misleading and distracts from the point that the non farming union are RT. The non farming union hide behind the fact that they are RT and refer to RT as though they are just some other company that undertakes crops assurance because it's too embarrassing for them to openly tell their members that they are RT. It's a massive con to mislead farmers yet again.
We are now having the last laugh. I'll be claiming twenty years of subs back for starters.

Well I am outspoken and say it as I see it, I have never been taken to one side and spoken to or told to be nicer or quieter.

Perhaps the SW are used to a more militant membership?

i think the NFU is full of great guys at county level, people like you are clearly passionate and doing it for all the right reasons

be clear, when I’m critical of the NFU it’s at national level, the 21 million £’s per year worth of paid employees and gravy train officers that seems completely disconnected from county level

my father was a country chair many years ago, he gave up as frustrated that country was taken no notice of it seemed ……… nothing much has changed it seems

Yes,
I’m pretty much done with the NFU.
Was branch chairman for 3 years and tried to change things locally and make it more of an information hub, but noticed that people (higher up in the NFU locally) just didn’t want to knowledge share.
One local farmer was branch chairman before me, is west mid arable board chairman, basf real results farm and local Bayer farm. Have we had any local knowledge shared from his farm? Maybe information on appropriate fungicide rates or fungicide trials happening at his farm? Have we bollox!
In fact, they were looking for extra board members recently and he told the branch that he didn’t want anyone locally to run for it as we were covered well locally with him already on it!
Snouts in the trough is correct
I’ll just qualify that he is quite happy to appear in the farming press telling else how to do the job, but nothing shared locally.

the nfu are grea.t at county level thats the issue people see them at shows etc and they get people joining up etc. There just seams to be a massive gap to the next level that people cant cross to improve the nfu, thats what there good at people face to face at shows and protecting the higher level

that “next level“ sadly means keeping opinions to yourself, doing as you are told to climb the ladder, the money and power and chance of New Years honours increasing at each step becoming more and more attractive than trying to actually make a difference, upset no one as they may be interviewing for that next board position etc. Soon you spend so little time actually farming any longer you are completely removed from the reality of what you are talking about

beyond county level nfu officers are just drones, instructed by policy makers (paid by industry) to do as they are told

Thanks. It's not just us two though, in fact far from it.

Behind the scenes there's a group of us working together. Forum members have been compaining about the backstabbing incident, writing to AHDB, NFU, AIC, RT, MP's etc.

Too many people involved to mention individually, but certainly a very determined group effort (y)
look at that list of leaches living on our backs, how many do we support?
