The angry country

Jean-Marc Puissesseau, president and chairman of the ports of Calais and Boulogne, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the dispute concerned only about 40 boats, "a drop of water in an ocean".
He said that these boats had been unable to prove their history of fishing in British waters either because they had been unable to take part in a monitoring survey or because the fisherman had replaced their boats with newer models.

Chap from Jersey interviewed on Radio 4 news yesterday. He explained that (some of) these boats not granted licences could not prove previous fishing as they did not have log books for the time. The operators are still saying they fished during the reference period backed up by the French Authorities. The Jersey chap said so in that case the operators were breaking the law (EU Law) by not completing a log book at the time. He was making the point that in that case the operators cannot have it both ways.

Anyway my view - we should nuke the French.

I suspect Ursula has told Mannu the french will have to put more in the lovely EU slush fund , hence his disproportionate reaction to anything British

I thought it was the European Union?

Or is it European ‘every man for himself’……
I assume it would be a unilateral action by France. Fishing rights around the Channel Islands had pre Brexit always been agreed locally by the individual island parliaments and the Normandy region rather than Westminster and Paris, which is probably causing the friction this time. Although there has always been odd flare-ups in the past like the Cherbourg incident in 1993.

Last time I heard we (UK) were no where near self sufficient in beef.
Vallance has already told us to stop eating so much so that's not a problem. I'm sure we can rustle up a decent supply of turnip and beetroot pies as long as we don't stand on any beetles while harvesting them. Parsnip wine is good too although the one my dad made when I was a kid turned out to be about 200% proof.

@czechmate I find it quite incredible the amount of advice given when you don’t even want or need it, usually given by those not qualified or able to give it. I generally ignore it.

Yes. When I realised the rest of the uk land had to go, 6 years ago, which was going to leave me with a sum to invest, every one had an opinion. I got, “buy a flat in Paris, buy a house in La Rochelle, by houses in Leicestershire, buy houses in Montmorillon”.🤔. I have NO interest in buy to let’s. If I ignore my time, after the next harvest this “spare” farm will have paid for itself- I could give it away and not be out of pocket. It hasn’t been a disaster by any means👍. I do moan about it I know, as it means I have to work non stop which isn’t why we came here at this time in life and I can’t just employ someone, not because we can’t afford it but because everyone here is fully employed 🤷‍♂️
Yes, the place is on the market, it may sell this year or in ten years, it doesn’t matter... and even when it does; I still have no idea what would be a better investment :banghead:
