No, but there are cross compliance implications. Not the answer to your question I realise.are there conditions as to how they spend the money ?

not reallyThis isn't about food security though. It's about helping farmers reduce environmental impact.
Food security is a completely different issue.
that was the best thing about BPS you could do what you like with the money even spend it on hobbiesNo, but there are cross compliance implications. Not the answer to your question I realise.
I think it's a widely overlooked factor in current subs.Yes they did but farmers are still subsidising production when they don't have to.
I do want to see that aspect. I want to know if what I'm doing on the farm is economically viable. If I'm living off the subsidy, which some of us could, then what's the point of running a loss making operation alongside it?I think it's a widely overlooked factor in current subs.
Am awful lot of us 'prop up' the farm business with those payments.
I'd love to know the % that gets recycled almost immediately.
The sub detractors don't want to see that aspect.
Whilst it’s great to be given free money to do what you want with it’s never going to gain us the respect of the publicthat was the best thing about BPS you could do what you like with the money even spend it on hobbies
Well it’s fairly easy to work out, every year I give the sub money straight back to the bank!!I do want to see that aspect. I want to know if what I'm doing on the farm is economically viable. There are reportedly quite a number of farms whose profits are lower than the bps though.Well it’s fairly easy to work out, every year I give the sub money straight back to the bank!!
On an average year my profit is anything from £60k to £90k, my sub currently is £42k and is included in farm accounts so without it things don’t look terribly great for long term investment or expansion or anything else except plain survival.
Wage bill is £10200/yr so if I paid myself the same as Janet I suspect I would be making a healthy loss!!
Fortunately solar/light industrial will make up the shortfall going forwards.
Plenty of farms losing money even with bps. What is the point. There are reportedly quite a number of farms whose profits are lower than the bps though.
Mine would be if I paid myself a proper wage and made pension contributions. There are reportedly quite a number of farms whose profits are lower than the bps though.
The point is that alot want to carry on as they are and always have.Plenty of farms losing money even with bps. What is the point.
It also appears to have been forgotten that the common agricultural poilcy was designed by the French and Germans ( for the benefit of the French) to keep the peasants on the land. This support for the rural economy intended to prevent depopulation and migration to the cities. Remember the French Revolution?I think it's a widely overlooked factor in current subs.

Should probably include bps as windfall rather than income alsoAlthough being in the fortunate position of being owner/occupier I always look at my accounts and add on an average rent and average wage which I don't take out the farm and come to the conclusion that I would be making a loss most years if I had both to pay!
Just have the money thanks, makes no odds everyone gets government subsidy's of one kind or another,Whilst it’s great to be given free money to do what you want with it’s never going to gain us the respect of the public
How do they carry on? If we run out of cash it’s gameover? We don’t have any other reserves we can draw on.Plenty of farms losing money even with bps. What is the point.

Food security is a completely different issue.
They are not interdependent though. You don't need to farm to claim bps and you don't need to claim bps to farm. You are correct in that LNR/LR are not about food security which is what is significant.
This thread keeps referring to BPS which did contribute to some food security and its replacement not only removes any security but actively reduces it.
To purely consider them as separate issues is foolhardy to the extreme.
