Good prices and cheap commission is it set amount per beast
No it’s a bit of a mystery to me how they work it out but never seems to get over £32. Sometimes they seem to charge more for less, overall it’s pretty competitive. Heavyweights are falling rapidly from favour, if they had weight 620 they would have been 20p less, over 680 it would have been 30-40p. Didn’t get there in time to see bulls sold, though averages in the report would say less money

That is a good commission rate at that. Mate sold some cull cows in Bakewell the other week and commission came too £57 each avg. he wasn’t best pleased, made good money but the offtakes seem a bit steep.

Commission in our local mart is 3.95% for prime cattle with no cap . Levies, etc another £7.18. Takes £70 - £80 to sell a good beast. Think most Scottish marts will be similar. Direct to abattoir, deductions are £19.66 per head. You really can only sell real premium cattle live up here.

There was a write up of a fella in the Scottish Farmer saying Scottish beef had lost its premium the fella said a few things that I thought was silly
Don’t tend to read the Scottish farmer but if that was a Darlington advertisement I can guarantee Scott has said lots of silly things in his lifetime 😉 .....and I was there at a lot of them 😂🤣........ You should have heard the grace he made for my wedding .......nearly as good as the best mans speech 💥💥
