He’s only just started. Let’s just hope his plan doesn’t include going out in a blaze of glory.:(
The way Putin has been talking in recent days he does seem far too willing to risk the consequences of a full nuclear exchange  A Russian megalomaniac leader with a terminal illness who feels they have nothing to loose but maybe a legacy to gain would be a grave danger to the world!

That could be the nub.

IF he is successful in Ukraine (with the West largely sitting back and firing off rhetoric), will he be tempted by the Baltic States? That would bring the West in to open conflict as they are NATO signatories

Fortunately the man's an idiot but he's not a fool, he knows where he can go with no come back & where he can't, attacking a country that the world have already said they will not come to their aid is one thing, attacking a Nato country that would stir up a hornets nest of trouble he does not need is another.
Mutual destruction would not appeal to the generals under him so not on the cards thank god!

edit: perhaps treat this with caution, the photo on the left is a stock image

Would you send your grain ships to collect Ukrainian wheat, insurance companies tend not to cover damages in conflict zones......

Trouble is if they do that they end with a country looking like Syria with bombed out cities.

no but many russians regard ukranians as 'brothers/sisters' and vice versa so destruction by russia in ukraine isn't gonna go down well IMO
Putins spin on it is he is asking their Ukranian "brothers and sisters" who all fought for the motherland together against the Nazis,to lay down their arms, and go back to their families, to be liberated from their own Nazi/corrupt leaders.

All these financial sanctions seem a poor response, when the extra land and resources from the occupied areas will help to outweigh them over time.
The only positive i see is, the crisis may wake our decision makers up to the reality that we as a country need to be in control of our own resources and less reliant on others, especially for essential goods and energy.
