Nothing to what Ukraine is suffering, in effect fighting for our freedom.

I favour bombing the Kremlin now, but miltary experts think sanctions will help for now. I support our side Western democracy & if we have to suffer, it is our duty not to complain.
Ukraine is fighting for its own freedom!

It is not fighting for our freedom!

If the UK bomb's the Kremlin then Russia will certainly hit us with nukes!

And then its game over for everyone!

Putin has always cared about his image. All the Action Man topless photos, horse riding, fishing, hunting rifles etc. He's getting old - 69. He doesn't like it. I think he's been planning this for years, a little thing called Covid put his plans on hold for a bit, hard to fight a war if your soldiers are all ill. He's scared because Russia is getting surrounded by the former Soviet Bloc countries all joining NATO. Capitalising on the Separatist fighters in Eastern Ukraine - after all, 17% of the population in Ukraine is Russian.

Some of the Duma are not happy, they didn't vote for invasion of Ukraine, just recognition of 2 separatist regions. Most of the soldiers were told they were on a military exercise. His people back home have no stomach for their sons, brothers, fathers getting killed and he had done nothing to forewarn them that Russia was going to war. Despite the no doubt increasing efforts in Russia to quash access to western news, social media etc, his people will still get word of what is really happening. They don't want to be part of a pariah state, no international sport, etc, etc. They are becoming more emboldened. Putin was not elected in his current role. The people might be key to this, even though he will try and quash protest. Might be assassinated. Might be overthrown in a coup (good or bad? Devil or deep blue sea?). Some rumours that some of his troops not co-operating.

The worrying bit is what measures he might resort to in order to try and secure a quick surrender from Ukraine before he looks even worse to the home crowd.

credit NZ farmers : The war between Russia and Ukraine will impact the upcoming spring planting season.
“In two-three weeks farmers could start the planting season in Ukraine. But the Russian invasion changed everything. Because of military hostilities there are going to be big shortages of fuel and fertilizers. There certainly will be a lack of loans. There even may be a shortage of machine operators because of military losses etc.,” Mykhailov says.

yup - input problems including labour, and infrastructure (ports, bridges blown up etc) likely to be bigger effect than any damage to farmland.

You’ve got to admit he’s always been a seriously clever/dangerous/calculated individual/dictator. Your first paragraph is what I’ve been thinking for a while, a few years ago (2008 actually) when he went into Georgia to put them in place I thought he’d keep going, more than likely there were to many trade deals taking place re gas/oil/everything so he had to wait a few more years until he thought the west he’d built such strong ties and relations with could not push him back because they were to dependant on him..

i don't think it's going as well as vlad hoped......tiny 'mumerings' of cocilliation/desperation :scratchhead: .....long may it continue if so;)

eu proving 'stumbling block' to sanctioning swift....shame on them

germany is like a rabbit in the headlights

meanwhile i expect ursula is conveying a meeting to decide what shade of white for the flag:rolleyes:

Big alteration in your opinion Spin, yesterday you were posting that Ukraine was not defending its self & it would all be over in 24 hours.

Any way agree with you now, I just cannot beleive the determination of the Ukraine people, never in my life have I been so impressed by the population of a country.

Your view , wondering now what nuclear capability Russia has ...
Their ground forces look fairly useless

Setting off a nuclear bomb isn't as simple as pressing a button
Yes, it is my view and I will defend it. The only good russian soldier in Ukraine is a dead one. The more the better, until they f**k back off their own side of the border.
Fairly useless compared to what because they're still destroying Ukraine as far as I see.

Their being very brave and their leader is showing what it is to lead.
A few western leaders need to be taking notes.

i dunno....i saw pictures of ukranians shooting down two missiles earlier so they got some serious kit if they can do that....plus they're defending/able to set ambushes

i feel sorry not only for the ukranian troops but also the russian....those poor buggers don't want to be there:(

Very true.

Of course Ukraine are the weaker side but with much more motivation. I pray that Russian soldiers revolt, once it starts I'm sure many will follow the first brave few. (when I say revolt, I mean refuse orders).
