Is anyone putting all their chips in and increasing cows then ?
Several large dairy farms in this area are in dire straights. That’s a fact.
However, one large scale multi-site dairy business who rented a large farm locally and invested heavily in tracks, water systems and parlour, but open air cubicles in a very exposed site, gave up last year. Only for another similar multi-site operator to take over the lease and carry on doing the same. This one employs one man, a new Fendt with loader and a fairly medium capacity new trailer, full time carting bought silage about ten miles and to other farms about 25 miles away from the clamp. Not sure how their calculator differs so much from mine, but there you go. Calving flat out just now I imagine. Possibly finished.

Every business is different and if there’s money in his madness, and I assume there must be, good luck to him.

Are reservoirs not low for this time of year because of the lack of winter rainfall?? Summers are getting drier
Last Summer wasn’t drier here. We had the best grass growing Summer that I can remember, with rain just at the right times to avoid any of the usual short [and long] droughts that are usual on this coastal farm. Too wet for many damper farms inland.

We are keeping hold of our cows, milk price will get to above 40 pence this year can’t benefit from the increased milk price with no cows ! Never know there could be a crazy shortage of milk and reach well above those levels. A poor growing summer could be a disaster

I was told, several weeks ago, that Sainsbury’s suppliers are already on 40p.

I’ve just been driving up and down with the spreader on, so all the neighbours think I’m wealthy enough to put fert on grassland.👍
We’ve been on the last two or three days ive had a few sarky comments ‘you must be loaded’ -‘you must have had some left from last year’ was going to tell them ive turned the regulator down a fair bit but couldn’t bring myself to say it after hearing that.
