Clearly your knowledge of the wheat market isn't too sh!t hotare you hanging on to make £400/mt or it's otherwise non-compliant quality?
As far as the livestock sector is concerned the cereal sector is heading for price destruction. You can have as much cereals as you like but if no one can afford to buy it ???Sounds marvellous for arable farmers, the livestock men might not see it quite the same.
Could well see the livestock sector cutting back on feed and hence demand and some looking at growing at least some of their own.
I know. I feed nearly 300 ton of my own cereals each year to fatten about 150 beasts. Increased grain prices mean I have to value that at 45k more this year than last, £300 per animal to stand still on feed alone.Sounds marvellous for arable farmers, the livestock men might not see it quite the same.

I think us arable farmers need to get behind the livestock guys and somehow campaign for them to receive price rises.I can’t see anything but demand distribution at the minute with the disparity between what is happening with arable prices and livestock prices.
As an arable farmer I may be looking at have a great year, but if the result is there is no livestock industry left in the UK where do I stand then? Not in a great place is my feeling.
It’s a very strange feeling being worried about further price rises! These surely are crazy times.
Free straw!?I think us arable farmers need to get behind the livestock guys and somehow campaign for them to receive price rises.
We are also a mixed farm, at the moment also not changing anything drastically except hopefully feeding cattle less grain and more forage. But I hope we will see in advance when the money may run out and stop well before then ?Free straw!?
Seriously, supply and demand will sort things out.
No offence intended, but I can’t see many livestock farmers bring sympathetic to arable guys if poor prices.
We are a mixed farm, not changing anything dramatically here. Will keep going till money runs out and bankers on the phone.
Yes, I tend to agree, the market has to sort itself out, if feeding livestock isn’t paying cutbacks will have to be made, if the retailers want continued supply they will have to pay more or go short, if the market becomes short supply and demand should drive prices up.Free straw!?

All this volatility ain’t too much fun but hopefully the market will sort itself out, steady as she goes and watch out for the icebergs

Fair enough. Yes, supply and demand will sort things out, but at what cost?Free straw!?

That's nearly 100p/kg on my 21mth old cattle. It's nowhere near that yet!
I sold 2023 crop last week for £308/t so that will cover costs on some of it. Only 5 loads sold at that though.I feel your pain, ordered 3 loads AN last week & ordering urea and urea sulphur this week.
Possibly cutting use from 180 units/ac back to 150 units/ac.
Perhaps, next spring, if the future grain price is high enough and the fertiliser is cost effective we will increase rates ?
Liquid on tba price....sounds like a malting barley contract any indication when the liquid guys will release prices?Ordered 7 loads fert this past week. Enough to see us through till this time next year. 2 AN, 2 NS, 1 urea, 2 liquid on tba price.
