Lack of pictures from this week, but Monday was back raking for a contractor on the 10,000 hour fendt, Tuesday knocked 40 odd acres down for bales, yesterday was catching up round the yard and today raking up in front the baler. Still can't get the 4wd to disengage on the 7341 despite the air ram and lever doing what they should which probably means the Dropbox is gonna have to come off, so had to find another way of getting it to disengage for road travel.

Be better to drive steady on the roads wouldnt it? End up snapping the shaft off the other end

Spent this morning kicking out some grass with a tedder that’s older than me.

We’re finally starting to get some lush grass again after rain 👍

Went over to gather bales through supposedly empty fields and found one of my ewes and her lambs. The rest are weaned so I guess she’s a super mum.

Narrowly avoided tractor catching fire, got back to the yard just in time to disconnect the battery, cab was full of smoke.

For some reason that bare wire (which had burnt all of its insulation off) was live all the time, no idea what it did, not hazards or socket in cab.

Scary moment or two.

Then went to chuck some hay about.

Some from the last couple days. The rear toppers have got a pair of hydraulic adjustable depth wheels on each side but all four are plumbed into one spool. Wanted to be able to alter each side separately and already maxed out on spools so fitted a change over valve to split them up. Should make it easier to tweak on the deeper spray wheelings etc.

how's that go in the pit. I always are told it's best as hay, but we have the climate to make hay out of it.
Consolidates much easier than grass or maize. The only issue is cutting it out with the shear bucket, you can only take a small bite as it is so tight and dense.
The trouble with making it into hay is the loss of leaf when it is dry. After cutting we do not move it till we pick it up with the chopper, letting it over dry on the top and moist underneath so the average moisture is about right.
We are really happy to have something green and growing in this drought without irrigation.
