Hexham and Northern Marts sold at their opening sale of Store Lambs a catalogued entry of 1200.

The stronger end of store lambs, sold very well however dull coated lambs harder to cash. Although trade was up £5.32 on the year for poorer sorts.

Annual consignments all commenting on increased averages on the year.

Topping the trade were lambs at £129 firstly for Suffolks from Mrs C Barker, Craigshield and then also for a pen of 21 Texel cross lambs from Mr J Ridley, Wittonshields.

Store lamb sales will now take place every Friday at the conclusion of the cast ewes.

Picture just before i set to rowing this up this afternoon. 10 bales off 12 acre. Would of been left but the docks took over and seeded. Bossman thought there was to much to top. Didn't help cows getting in a couple of nights ago.

If I had to rake that I honestly think I’d have a break down and cry in the tractor

I’ve been topping with the mower far thicker pieces than that and leaving for the ewes to clear. now seeding thistles only with topper as nothing has grown that I mowed 3 weeks ago.

That was supposed to be second cut. First cut yielded 146 bales on 29th may. Furthest field from the farm so never really gets looked.

I think bossman was worried about docks seeding, there's a nice clean field of Lucerne just to the right, and perhaps thought there was more grass.

He says, I do. 🤣

There is still a bit left there.. if you are going to be short of crop you should get one of those old acrobat/horserake type things and gather that bit up too....you could get another 8 or 10 bales, might just see you through a hard winter!
