Tried out an electric scooter yesterday . They didn’t have the model I wanted to try but the Niu model I went out on had very impressive torque and riding presence (in virtual silence )

Short test run but the battery still went from 55 to 42 % . The dealer doubts the claimed 87 miles range will work in real life . I need 60 to do a round trip to check cattle and I’m going to try it when he has a demo model in

Neither the Super Soco, UBCO or Niu could do it in his opinion

I could double the budget and do it easy with a Zero dirt bike . You can see the quality of the engineering in the higher priced bike but none of it stacks up compared with the quad and scooter combination I run currently

I was proceeding in a westerly direction, about to apprehend the suspect, when me battery went flat.
Or I had to call into the petrol/diesel station to fill up ‼️

I set this thread off and I be honest my next car probably won’t be electric but the one after I’ve a feeling will be .

About the only interesting thing I’ve learnt about EV cars is the green flash on the numberplates.

Apparently, it’s there not to puff your green credentials but to forewarn the fire service that it’s an EV in the event of an accident and fire so they don’t pour water on the vehicle and electrocute any occupant.

It would appear that the you are back to zero interesting things because according to this...that is rubbish.....https://www.whatcar.com/news/electric-cars-get-green-numberplates/n20366

** shrugs shoulders ** and goes back to reading Sunday Times article by Adam Kay entitled "My electric car hell"
Perhaps I should read every negative article I can find against dairy farming and base my opinions of it on that?

Does the charging structure need to improve? Yes.
And it will.

Do pricing options need to come down?
Yes.
And they will.

Does there need to be longer range options.
Yes.
And they're coming.

couldnt listen to it - he was unable to keep on topic and infirm me of facts. he kept repeating himself.
Lol I do know what you mean, these diy YouTubers are not professional.
The sum up was he saved £6 k on fuel, compared with a gas car, his estimate not mine. the car has done 104 k miles, he has done 40k in it, it has an original battery which is still good, it cost him £30k to buy the car its now worth £32k.
His conclusion he estimates he would have spent £2500 on electric for that 40k miles and his car has gone up in value so even when it now has 104k miles his cost of ownership has been very small.
And he wants to keep it.

Adam Kay is that gay doctor who had a series on TV recently. Very much doubt he's Murdoch's lapdog but who knows now Murdoch is divorcing ....

Not really sure how the fact he prefers Arthur to Martha affects his subjective views on cars to be honest... He also "wrote" scripts for Mrs Browns boys.....

Clarkson also writes weekly in the ST- and as entertaining as his articles are, they're not always exclusively based on fact...

I can't quite understand how people get so emotive about EVs. I like my cars, and if someone likes a particular brand/type/style of car, that's their own taste etc- each to their own. It just happens that the most cost effective, and best value for money company car I can drive at the moment has an electric motor at each end, not a diesel burner- under the current tax regimes... That may well change at some point, and I'll be back in a diesel.

Yes there's been times when the charging has been an inconvenience, but in the main only where I've failed to plan. I've got home with zero remaining miles, as a result of a faulty charger, but I've also driven plenty of diesel cars on fumes in the past (once got 21 miles out of a diesel A3- who's dash told me I had zero miles remaining...)...

My EV is a company car, and a tool to enable me to do my job. It also happens to be great fun to drive, goes like stink, full of toys, practical, and costs me less than 5% in company car tax per month to a comparable diesel...

I typically do 40k miles a year- at an average of less than 40mph. That's roughly 40 full days, or 125 8 hour working days, per year sat in it.
