Unfortunately there's not really enough room to move it back any further, the cubicles are only 6'6" in depth, I did see on a farm walk recently someone had put telegraph poles in the front of theirs to stop cows going too far forward which I might try at some point.

It was built about 60 years ago and designed for smaller cows and equipment and is just about ready to fall down tbh (back wall is leaning out and you can see daylight through the concrete)
We’ve got the same cubicles on a 7ft bed. After a few like that, we put 9” electricity ducts along the front. We had the pipes in from a from a favour a few years back. Telegraph poles would do the same job and completely stop them in their own beds.

Don't know how many of you still use the deosan type of reusable milk filters. I have been looking for a new container to keep them in the filter cleaner between milkings. Mrs hillbily bought this back from IKEA the other day and it does the job perfectly. It a 10 litre bin with lid.

I use a stainless steel bucket with a lid, think it came from machine mart. A 5 litre mix of filter cleaner covers the filter nicely when it's laid in the bottom. A 10 litre mix seems a bit extravagant to me!

We had the same problem with our old Newton Rigg cubicles, no lunge space, against the wall. We decided adding an extra foot at the end of the beds (losing it from the feed passage behind them) was worth doing - at the same time as replacing with modern cubicles and mattresses. Although they are bit dirtier due to standing in more muck, as that passageway was already narrow, our problems with cows getting stuck in cubicles disappeared.

Grass getting a good drink, a good heavy 20 minute shower. That would do for a couple of weeks.
