what types of jobs caused it? bought a straw bedder 5yrs ago is that not smarter not harder?
100 kg bags of corn, ground to trailer, 14 yrs old
similar fert bags
catching cattle with no handling system
milking in parlour, at just the 'wrong' height
rugby
little bales
the list goes on and on, we used to clean out 45x60ft straw yards with 4 prong picks

but it was just 'normal' we didn't know any different.

the key to being successful in business according to some on here is to take it easy, do as little as possible so not to overstress urself or the wife/kids, loads of leisure time, simply "work smart" and its job done,

oh i forgot get rid of your cattle theyre too poor a return for the work just continously crop your farm sell all the straw!
If your in Perthshire. I'll take your straw give you some dung back ☺️

Wait , sh!t I still do all that . ( apart from the rugby replace that with breaking in horses all my life ) Have been since I turned 16 . I’m turning 60 soon . I’m ok have 14 cows and a Massey 65 and a friend with a quickie loader for unloading or stacking . I take turmeric and that helps loads. Edited to add it’s my neighbours cattle I have to catch with no handling system. But well remember the 100 kg bags of feed off the lorry when I was 13 . But still clean out all my sheds by hand .

How many hrs should farmer work ?
None

Farming isn't a job of work, it's a way of life

If you started carpet farming for the joy of it, and moved onto bigger and more expensive toys, the hours a day should all be playtime 👍

(Obviously I don't include any activity involving Blackie Ewes in the playtime hours, that's definitely work......

Anyone who says otherwise needs a stay in the asylum)

I don't care if it makes you as strong as the world's strongest man, wealthier than Elon Musk or more lethal to the fairer sex than rohypnol, anyone working 7am to 10pm all year round needs to get a life. I enjoy my new vocation far more than I used to enjoy farming and I won't do 100 hours a week in it for any amount of money. No one is going to thank you for it, there has to be a point to life.
