Is it cheaper to change tyres yourself?

Never heard of that method. I just use a bead blaster on smaller tyres and ratchet straps on big ones.
I take the valve core out, clip the tyre gun trigger full open and give the tyre a belt with a big sledgehammer in the centre of the tread. If air is leaking out of one place on the rim, belt it hard straight opposite it. Worked every time so far💪

When I can change a tire or fix a flat quicker than they can drive here I’d rather break a sweat fir ten minutes than wait. Rarely have a flat parked in the yard so I carry a spare for trailed implements. Once you’ve mastered the art of changing tires it’s pretty easy.
Exactly the same situation as us. I haven't had a farm tyre fitted for by somebody else in over twenty years I wouldn't know where to start finding someone and am pretty sure we can do it quicker when you take into account how far they would have to come.

You could always ask them the price of just fitting tyres if you bought them yourself. They may be more than happy to do so.

I keep a spare tyre on the place for some implements as the tyre company cannot always keep stock of everything and I know they may take several days to arrive.
You see A few tyre vans knocking around here with buy online and we will fit them written on them

Been there and have the T shirt. Experience here says ‘use thumb to operate phone. Get on with more important jobs.

We have a length of 3/4 inch hose plumbed via a big tap direct into the compressor tank for getting the air in quick when blowing them out.

We've been doing them ourselves for a while now, pretty easy once you've learnt the art and no messing about waiting, keep a spare tyre for most machines so if you get a blow out it's easy to get rolling again

Having seen threads where people talk about paying £100 an hour for a mechanic to visit their farm in the UK are your tyre fitters so much cheaper?.

What's the going rate to fit a tractor tyre? is it a call out fee and then so much an hour?

and what about side of the road? When young and stupid I have changed lorry tyres on the hard shoulder of the M25 in pouring rain and I wouldn't do for several hundreds of pounds an hour today.

Always used to do my own, now I am old and decrepid I leave it to the tyre fitters.
Yaaay! I chuckle at the DIY’ers, it’s almost like a competition to self harm.
I must be lucky in that I have a fantastic local tyre team who come on a call and fix. Ok not like Star Trek in a millisecond but in their own way PDQ.
This thread has reminded me that I owe them for two brand new trailer tyres fitted promptly on a Saturday almost six months ago.
I have just sent a reminder to them to send me an invoice. Now that’s service isn’t it😁

I must also remind my local AG Engineer that I owe for 25 litres of tractor engine oil as he’s forgotten too. A year on that one!
Ah, the joys of rural smallholding, one has to chase up to PAY ones bills FFS 🤣🤣🤣

Never pay too early as some forget and some die.

Won't get a fitter here from Saturday lunch to Monday later.
Just leave that hay to spoil, for want of fitting new wheel or sorting a flat!
No way.

J’ai un crevee. Is this the right translation. I have had good service from the French tyre repairers. Stuck on a ‘route national’ with two punctures in a LR with five children on board.
Nothing was too difficult for them.
Sounds like you’ve not a lot of neighbourly support. 😪
