Farming strike

I was wondering what you guys/girls would think about a farming strike. I'm a beef man myself and obviously I can't stop feeding stock but we can stop selling stock for say 2 weeks. Surely it would cause enough chaos to get powers above to take notice.
Apparently to Therese coffey statement the other day, they need us! You wouldn't think so the way we're messed about.

I know and I think it would work but how can we get everyone in on it. Probably can't include milk men
Beef or arable farm would have minimal pain, beef a little more feed then try and sell 4 weeks worth in 2….impossible to process so an ongoing lag. Dairy, fresh produce, eggs - dump 2 weeks worth of produce and breach contracts? Meanwhile shelves empty and a few more consumers then decide they can do without…..

i do despair sometimes:rolleyes:

Thing is with strikes, you have to say, specifically, what it is that you want from your employer, and be prepared to stay on strike until you get what you want. What is it, specifically, that you want ?
Yes true. Fair stock price that covers breeding/wintering cost and not to rely on bps payments to break even

Even if every farmer did strike. The back log of livestock for slaughter would flood the markets short term after the strike and shoot farmer in the foot. As said breach of contracts, crops missing critical applications cause yield loss and animal welfare issues. Can’t see many committing to much more than a couple of days as we all have too much to lose and the power to be know that. Stop imported meat grain and dairy and you’ll cripple the country in a week. Until people go hungry we will still be undervalued.

If find her speech patronising. It’s always as if “they” know better and we are seen as some kind of delinquents who know nothing. “They” are “getting you the cutting-edge kit and the expert advice you need to improve productivity, health and welfare.”
So even though I’m degree educated and have 40 years practical farming experience here they think I’m doing it all wrong?
No other industry would tolerate meddling on this scale. You never hear that “they” are getting the power industry or industrial manufacturing industries the cutting edge kit and the expert advice they need….
I don’t really need your advice Ms Coffey. In the unlikely event that I do need your advice I’ll ring you. In the meantime just let me get on.

And if we don’t accept their support they’ll tackle us head on.
Wow. Bigger state, more intervention.
Reminds me of what my history teacher said about the crusades.
“Certain people thought there was a problem in Jerusalem. So they assembled an army and marched there. When they arrived they found a multicultural city living in harmony. So they slaughtered them all anyway.”

We have never been in a stronger position to strike, ring every slaughterhouse and say all beef will have to be £5/kg or it will be staying at home. Sfa they could do with such short notice and contracts mean nothing when its them wanting to change it. No way on earth we should be price takers, we produce it, we should set the price.
We are all as thick as shite for letting them get away with it.

Loads of farmers waking up to the fact that selling produce direct and local is far more profitable than selling it to robbing supermarkets

You don't need to strike, as a industry just reduce your output by 5 to10% at first and ramp up a bit if nothing happens. Aren't milk contracts with in 10% daily, more/ less than the day before. Fattening cattle can be held back a bit as can lambs.🤔
It could be done but as an industry some will always chase the extra penny, reference MMB. It's too late as now as you have been divided and conquered.🦃 🦃 4 Xmas

I can see it. What’s intended is ever greater State control of the land. They think they know best but they don’t. They meddle and tinker with things they know little about and we have already seen crops such as beet and OSR jeopardised by their “expert” advice.
And they continually put the brake on alternative land uses such as renewables even for land that is incredibly inefficient at food production. Ms Coffeys party is a big hindrance to growth in the rural economy and national energy and food supply security. Bumbling amateurs blinded by a combination of nimbyism, zero practical experience and greenwash.
