Farming strike

I was wondering what you guys/girls would think about a farming strike. I'm a beef man myself and obviously I can't stop feeding stock but we can stop selling stock for say 2 weeks. Surely it would cause enough chaos to get powers above to take notice.
Apparently to Therese coffey statement the other day, they need us! You wouldn't think so the way we're messed about. View attachment 1080233sorry all abit random, not the best scoller!
What's all your thoughts?
Lol slight floor in the plan - farmers working together ...... 😂

Didn’t the Irish farmers stop selling beef a few years back, because prices were too low. The processors said no price rises, so they just shut the factories. Uk prices went up and farmers here cashed in on it. Eventually the Irish farmers had to accept the processors’ terms, and then there was a backlog of beef, overweight and fat

I’m wondering if we need to get too worried about Therese Coffey’s threat.
We all got stirred up about ELMs and look what has happened to that?

IMO Rishi couldn’t think who else to be in EFRA and knew Eustice was Useless. As was Victoria Prentice.
On top of which, he couldn’t give Liz Truss a job, so chose her deputy.

This Government is fuked and wont be in power for long. The ELMs proposals only promised until the end of this Parliament, which I strongly doubt will last much longer.

You’d think The Tories would want to keep us on side, wouldn’t you?
Not a chance with me, any more!

I was just putting it out there for ideas and thoughts

UK ag puts an action plan in place to ensure that in Dec 23 there is one more independent abattoir providing a home kill service than there is today.

While I agree with the sentiment of a strike, reducing production by keeping fewer animals, buying less feed and fert, in the case of livestock; and growing cheaper breaks (they hate us growing beans for example) harms those businesses claiming to support us, while profiteering in reality.

Protecting the farm business by reducing costs also helps us move away from the cycle of overproduction.

If we all said we were going to have a 5 day strike ( inc sat and sunday) at least it would demonstrate to our public that all is not well in agriculture.. the papers and news would publish it and if the reality is the daily grind carrys on as normal and the picket line fails to stop daily deliveries which is fact then the message has still been sent loud and clear.. lets do it!!!

Local butchers are already bringing in foreign beef at less than home produced, similarly with pork.

They would just bring a bit more in from abroad, sometimes signing up to longer contracts with foreign processors to gaurantee supply.

After the 'strike' there would be a price crash of major proportions.
Its not there to bring in or we wouldnt be on our current beef prices

The governments don’t care about food anyway. Have you seen what’s happening in Netherlands? They plan to get rid of a third of their farmers. They’re going from being net food exporters to importers. All in the name of the green agenda.
Yes governments not the eu to blame this time and well that will be good for other 'member states 'to slip stuff in there to full fill the short fall.. with 'minimum hassle' .. ... oh hang on a minute :(

Doesnt really stack up does it, milk price is reported to fall next year but the dutch and NZ are cutting cow numbers etc to meet the green agenda. America culled thousands of cows because of drought, production down due to fert cost so less applied. Most commonsense people can only see food being short in the future

well a sheep meat producer that 'voted out' mustn't complain now because he voted to spoil future Export marketing of lamb ,the spoiling of years of work that had been done establishing and consolidating Export markets on the 'Continent' .

long term Joined up group thinking of the bigger Worldly picture is what is required im afraid.

Not whinging about the petty.

The egg price in Europe is higher than here. The Italian eggs are described as "barn". Retailling at £2.70/doz, traditionally half that goes to the farmer. At that price they could have free range RSPCA certified eggs from the UK.
BUT, because they have buggered around for so long, there simply aren't the hens in the UK to provide the eggs.

I can see it. What’s intended is ever greater State control of the land. They think they know best but they don’t. They meddle and tinker with things they know little about and we have already seen crops such as beet and OSR jeopardised by their “expert” advice.
And they continually put the brake on alternative land uses such as renewables even for land that is incredibly inefficient at food production. Ms Coffeys party is a big hindrance to growth in the rural economy and national energy and food supply security. Bumbling amateurs blinded by a combination of nimbyism, zero practical experience and greenwash.

I don't think they are bumbling along.

A lot of what they've done has been by design. I've seen people warn the Conservatives about energy problems on their website for years and years.

They've chosen to make money for themselves whilst the country burns.

They know there is £Billions to be made by Greenwashing - for THEM - same for making people eating factory made gloop. Won't matter if people get ill because they have another £Billions scheme to make money out of that in "Health".

I won't say what I do think, it wouldn't do us all any good. Labour & Liberals are exactly the same.
