What do people think the clean (dwt) price is going to do over the next few weeks? Had a lorry load away this week, got another 3 loads which would go now at a 3 at, but was going to keep sending a load every 2-3 weeks on 4L. Rise, flat or fall in price? Many beef farms hold back until April to sell for end of tax year?
Going to flatten out I think, especially on the dead , think live will rise through the next month-6 weeks then May is always funny then be ok until at least September probably longer 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I was told they were trying to hold it/pull it back a bit due to another impending price climb once people get to the end of their yarded cattle and start turning out. However the buyer who told me that also reliably informed me the week before Christmas that it was best to get the cattle away soon as the price was only going to go one way and that's down! Then they went up by 40p/kg 🤣

Looking at the wider issues it is hard to see any more increases in value.
The budget did nothing to increase spending in the short term.
The world banking crisis will make many nervous and at present the pound is strengthening as it is seen as a relatively safe haven. This is always double edged as imports become cheaper but supplies are tight in the world.

An issue which will have an effect closer to home is the declining milk price and there is little doubt that there will be a significant increase in cows being sold, which will put a lid on the cow price and may have an effect on reducing mince values which has been the driver for the increases in beef.
Store cattle prices while still buoyant for the best have declined for the second grade and longer term cattle. Feed prices are not coming down as fast as the grain price yet!!

In the past dairy farmers response to a declining milk price has been to produce more and we are going into the cheapest production period as cows go to grass.

I can't see many extra dairy cows getting culled until summer, they will soon be on Spring grass, and although the milk price is dropping, it is still good. Many cows that may have been culled on a dropping milk price will have already gone with culls being so dear.

Agreed and every cow culled is one less to produce a calf too
