Land Owners - Deer Culling

It might have been @Two Tone who talked of the hoops a deer farmer he knew had to go through that explains why stalkers get nothing and yet deer farms exist. It was something about supplying Waitrose with their own accredited blah blah and once they'd set up all the forms and lists, checks and balances, guess what? This venison guy had the rug pulled out from under him (and his supply group). Someone on here will remember.
It was me. I am the deer farmer. Typical Waitrose and M&S sh!te don’t understand that deer farming isn’t the same as beef farming.
They try to control everything and then they cut the price!

Way two deer, i'd want the antlers as well for that money.
Reminds me of that oldie:
What do you call a deer with no eyes?
No idea!
What do can a deer with no eyes nor legs?
Still no idea!
What do you call a deer with no eyes, no legs and no balls?
Still no fvcking idea!

I had a lad ring me asking if I wanted a deer (roe) his mate is struggling to meet his cull quota but can’t store them and doesn’t want to waste them, there gutted obviously but in their jacket, I had room in the freezer and I don’t mind butchering them so I said yeah…. Matey says He wants £50!
now that’s just pure greed, not raised it, just pulled the trigger and gutted it

So many shooters in Kent and Surrey/Sussex who want to shoot deer but are struggling to get a permission .
I have at least four guys who want to shoot for free all fully insured and 100% trustworthy .
So lets us hope they get a chance.
Those keen shooters will be able to apply to be licensed for the cull and then get paid for it, win win for them

Yes of course they can, I caught about 1,000 fallow for a farmer in Suffolk over a few years. All you need is the will and the skill.

Where did they end up? Sold into parks or petfood?

I thought if they were penned in and fed hay by hand for a couple of weeks they would become tame enough to handle and sort bucks/does/fawns?

(obviously ignoring the legalities of TB and selling wild animals)

That's what my mate gets paid by the butcher.

He often gets up at 4am this time of year to go stalking, half the time comes home with nothing and has his chiller and cutting room to pay for (including local authority accreditation). If he shoots in an evening he can then be skinning & gutting till midnight.

Nobody is going to give venison away for free, even if their permission is free.

(But I appreciate your lad was in a hole, sounds like he needs more chiller/freezer space)

Worth bearing in mind that anything involving money will be hedged around with legislation and red tape.

Ain't wrong there. The latest development? British Quality Wild Venison . Another way for SAI to make a few quid, and for interfering types to stick their noses in.

This thread got me thinking I really ought to stock up the deep freeze. Then I started to research prices.

The first thing that Google came up with? Don't think I'll bother! (Or maybe, pick my own). On the other hand, there is mention of compulsory culls in Scotland.....
Is venison more expensive than beef UK?
Venison is generally more expensive than beef at UK supermarkets, although supporters say it can be good value.

That is taking the pi$$. Butcher charges me £30 to butcher a fallow if I send it head and feet off and gutted. Wife’s not a fan, but will eat it as mince, so I have most of it as mince, with chops and steaks for the barbecue - cheap meat considering the price of minced beef.

Do you not know a shooter? I get one now and again for letting someone shoot my bit. Don't know how many he gets but always a few about
