why are people so stupid

And then there s the crocodile of cars all on autopilot following the slow coach at the front , you see a clear road safe to overtake, and think sod it I'll go pass 3 or 4 look in mirror and as if by magic they wake up and one by one start to overtake.
Driving standards are shocking.

Early today driving down a single track country lane, saw a tractor and trailer coming towards me maybe 1/4 mile or less away.
Spotted a gateway and pulled in , rather naively expecting the car that was right on my arse to do same.
Nope woman just charged past and then 100m further on she woke up.
Tractor then had to edge on to narrow verge whilst she attempted to get out of way.
Is this lack of observation,
Saw it but couldn't care less,
Lack of intellect
Lack of common sense.
All of above.
Happens all the time. Folks just don't think or acknowldge you when you think ahead and yield for oncoming cars etc

And the number of emergency vehicles with 200 watt yelpers, alternating flashing headlights, blue lights and front strobes, you yield to it oncoming and even when you flash cars coming towards you they have no clue of what's coming up behind them. Then they spot, freeze and block the road right opposite you !!!

Most people on seeing blue lights now just freeze and stop right there. Don't have any clue on what to actually do. In some respects maybe that is for the best.

Don't get me started on that. If you have hardware you gotta exercise it else might as well just have a shopping trolley.
I'm always wary of overtaking , had a woman once pull out in front when I had lights on and horn sounding , she had no clue I was there.
Also if a high powered car does wake up and dosnt look in mirrors I could get left in no man's land, I'm always expecting stupidity and am often proven correct.
Other day stopped at traffic lights two lanes I'm in left to turn left , in right lane two teenagers on bikes who should turn right.
just had a feeling stupidity was about to occur and it did, lights turned green and one of the idiots swerved across in front of me , and then swerved again across two lanes to ride on pavement.
Around here a favourite pastime seems to be kids pulling wheelies on main roads, with no thought to the catastrophic consequences if it goes wrong.

I think that a lot of it is complete lack of awareness of what’s going on around them. The British drivers are simply taught how to pass a fairly basic test, nothing to do with real life driving on a wide variety of roads and conditions.
Farmers should be classed as professional drivers (well most should be). Can just imagine the average school run driver being sat in the cab of a tractor, Shaw pulveriser on the front and a tattie harvester on the back, or any other combination. They would 💩 themselves

Driving through local town all dualled up, combi drill on back , press on front , school run mum desperate to get home, pulled out of a junction in heavy traffic ,I was in a queue, left plenty of room between press and car in front, and unbelievably she parked at 90 degrees to press as close as she could get, whilst attempting to barge in-between a lorry and a car going opposite direction to me. Lorry driver looked at me and just shook his head.

Yes, I followed you the other day and I thought your driving was horrendous.

Did you see that cyclist then? The bloke was all over the road: I had to swerve wildly to hit him.

Incidentally I drove by there just yesterday, much as I suspected, the denizens of the Mendips have indeed removed the corpse for the purposes of rearing their brood but left the remains of the bicycle and the cyclists helmet, apparently even their guts can't digest that.

A year or so ago we had roadworks outside our gate. We had to join single lane traffic light controlled traffic from our farm entrance with no knowledge of the state of the lights at either end of the works on the main road. So seeing traffic flow through we would tag on behind it assuming that direction had the green light. Anyway on one occasion we must have been a bit slow following the queue as the light had gone green before we had cleared the system. The bloke at the front of the queue waiting at the other end went nuts at being delayed for would have been a five seconds. Almost comical. In fact next time I was a bit slower such was the entertainment value. Some people could see and understand why it happened. Others just couldn’t.

There was an article on the front page of the Times yest about the average IQ dropping. The article was about eating eggs and how crucial a woman’s diet is during the conception phase in determining the eventual IQ of the baby. The article said that average IQ is actually falling. I’ve suspected it for a while but didn’t realise that it is actually happening.
