My brothers and I refer to ours as “I’m 86, you know!”I've still got a mother .
Ironically, about the same age as my employer.

In autumn 2019 when it turned biblically sh!t and wet two lots of spring beans didn’t get cut till feb and April 2020 locallyNow you have reminded me of something. I went racing one new years day 15-20 years ago to cheltenham. Between oxford and cheltenham there were 2 claas cutting linseed. The straw was being burnt as they went. It was cold and dry. Obviously not ideal but they were salvaging what looked like an acceptable crop as I recall.
Mine is 94 , still driving , quite well too , and still boll0cks me most days .My brothers and I refer to ours as “I’m 86, you know!”

I was thinking in the context of linseed retting particularly. Beans are quite resilient. In autumn 2019 when it turned biblically sh!t and wet two lots of spring beans didn’t get cut till feb and April 2020 locally
I was called into harvest some Spring Linseed about 15 years ago, in late November. The crop was standing and when I started harvesting it with my TF78, it was Freezing Fog. Eventually the frost went and I had to stop for a couple of hours until the sun dried the dew off it.Now you have reminded me of something. You don’t want it. It’s 2 million too much. A big rundown house, the front looks ok but from the field side it looks like a ruin, windows falling out, a grain store that is 50 years out of date and doesn’t work, a yard that is a complete mess, land full of blackgrass because of the owners decisions.I know of who you speak.
If he was such an expert, why couldn't he make a go of it himself?
That place is on my shopping list if the Euromillions come my way.
His grandsons, who are both my age. (One of them the son of my godfather) have a lot to live up too! But I’m sure will do well both great guys.Amazing what a couple of hours of kip can do. My dear wife has cooked me a lovely supper.
Your conversation of unusual Suffolk farmers has reminded me of one, who though unusual, was a respected guy who had a farm at Fordham All Saints, called Paul Rackham.
A brave guy who took a few risks and went bankrupt, more than once IIRC.
But got off his backside and had another go.
Also IIRC, they used to hold the South Suffolk Show there.
Wouldn’t surprise me if @JP1 knew him.
I guess that i'll carry on pig farming then! You don’t want it. It’s 2 million too much. It could be amazing, but has been run down for many years. Such a shame. I’ve tried.
I got told the other day it all went wrong when I came back and stopped using the solo, growing continuous wheat and using Atlantis….I guess that i'll carry on pig farming then!

not the easiest re weather but think we had it better than most seem to have, overall not a bad one here really, reasonable / pleasing yields for our soils, no breakdowns or damage and most importantly everyone safe

Obviously it wasn't all of that that got everyone in the mess in the first place....I got told the other day it all went wrong when I came back and stopped using the solo, growing continuous wheat and using Atlantis….
