Must have a big trailer if you need a 250Hp tractor !!

Depreciation on that tractor alone is probably running at £30 plus/ hr. Add the driver at £16/hr, fuel at £10 /hr ............ so at least £60 / hr

Tell your neighbour he can rent one of Roland hire at £1350 week........ max 60 clock hour......... and then stick a driver on it

From NAAC
Tractor hire (including driver)
£/hour 100-150hp £47.36
150-220hp £50.13
220-300hp £64.60

Surely you're a businessman and you know your costs? Be a price maker, not a price taker, and don't pay the haulage either way.

I know my costs and they are covered - but want to charge the going rate, I don't work on cost plus (because as you say I am a businessman whose job is to maximise profits)

I only have 240 hp tractors - (724's). not really overkill for a decent load of grain or spuds IME

If you know your cost’s, surely it must come down to how much profit element you want to add on to those costs before you will do the job.

Whatever the going rate is doesn’t mean it “ has to be “.

no - I will charge whatever the commercial going rate is - I don't do this for sh1!s and giggles its a business, I don't want to overcharge but equally I don't want to subsidise other people business. If I was to charge less than the "going rate" I would also damage other contracting business in the area whom maybe don't have tractors and labour with cost already amortised over existing workload

Don’t Forget you have to use White your haulage, you’re not doing the complete job, so you hire to him your complete outfit men tractor and trailer and make sure you say that on your invoice and a written contract date stamped and signed, then you will have a paper trail.
Then you will come part of this team so you can run on red .
If you ever get pulled over make sure your driver never says that you are contracting you are on the hire to ex
It’s always the first sentence which is always criminating to a dvsa officer they have a knack of twisting words to make you say what you are doing.
This is just advice when I use to subcontract contractors in to help me out and vice versa.
