depends on the price of milk? surely as to what they will pay you to steal your straw??
I mean in terms of getting it baled and in the dry. Hay this year was a nightmare and straw was stressful as anything. Held combining back as we had to clear it field by field. Small bales for horses mostly so milk price doesnt affect it. 3.50 a small bale. Makes the job worth doing.

I’ve some wheat seed on the sand that’s not drowned but it’s emerging incredibly slowly now. The rooks are having a go at it just to be different. Two scarecrows now in place. They’ll be getting some high speed lead if that doesn’t work.

Think i'd go straight to the lead. Nice bit of sport for the odd hour or two where it isnt raining.
What a crock late drilling is.
Not a fan of it myself, father is very keen on late drilling as it reduces the risk of disease... think i'd rather have to spray for mildew than be drilling in november after this year

I wouldn’t say very difficult but it’s certainly changed from what I’ve seen. For me I came from a farm that had no chance to ever expand and I was basically in a corner. Moving here was my one chance to get ahead and have a better life which it has. If I was in a good farm with a reliable income I wouldn’t have been as keen to chance moving.
granted the weather can really be harsh here but it’s a nice place to farm and still has a farm oriented economy so we are needed. My standard of living could never have been the same had I not come here.
Do you farm with crop insurance ?
As lot take it out every year
