Why do we have subs?

Is it to produce cheap food

Or to deliver enviromental outcomes that some see as needed (I don't but it is tax payers money)

Or social engineering to keep the sucessful farmers down & keep the less sucessful ones living in a way to which they enjoy.

I'm a small slightly left of centre farmer 220 acres, but have no issue with those who deliver more outcomes getting more subs. Otherwise we may as well have a universal social sercurity payment for everyone (I don't support that).
No , read my posts again , WHY weren't / aren't they (the payments ) Capped.
Bad Management by the pay masters of it , no some of the 'big boys ' wont want it that way but as a matter of fact they are in the minority.
Average farm size is around 190 acres for English farms .

and small farmer is subjective , I farm l half that and a third of that again is rented of which the landowner gets the their share of the 'subsidy ' in rent.

We have Still managed to bring up our family within it all , thankfully.

Wasn't much fun competing against others with Ewe Quota when i had none either , then later with area payment's , holding up land prices and favouring larger acres who could either borrow against or use all their spare area payments to buy more land and get bigger.

Point is and since you replied I know at least as much about it all as you. (y)

If you want to start protesting but are concerned about red or white diesel getting stopped by plod etc then get smart.
What are the rules and work within them, taking a load of bales to another farm for example, or a trailer load of manure. Are there restrictions on distance? Get enough in the same area doing it and see the results. Make sure everyone is legal though, lights, straps, number plates etc.

Talking to our local Claas dealer a French farmers son he tells us that any fines that the farmers get will be paid by their Co-ops. Do you reckon the NFU or any other farming organisation will pay for any farmer prosecuted for illegal action.

I doubt it.

No. No they won't

I offered a solution/suggestion above, no reply not even a like. It looks like all the fight, passion and motivation has been bred out of people. No only farmers, everyone winges and whines on social media but to get up and do something, nah

Generally people don't like to break the law. It's not a bad thing really. A lot of what the French have done is totally anarchic and if done in the UK would be counter productive.

That I have seen in all the posts on all the different threads over the past two weeks. Which is why I suggested a way to make a news worthy impact without breaking the law.

I have not trawled through the whole thread but it seems to me most of this platform is anti NFU? Is this not counterproductive to the industry? Perhaps some who disagree with current tactics of the NFU should try to become part of it to instigate change? Not a five minute job and simplistic I admit.
The other point that strikes me and without real figures to hand, the UK population is, I suspect, further away from rural and agri roots. I am not sure the perception of farmers, on the whole, is very positive with the rest of the population. Plenty on this platform exacerbate the "them and us" attitude.
I am not sure there is any sense of food security from the top down and price rules. Members of our population that recall food hardship are fast dying out.
