We had a local hauler ask for some as available wheat. So I said come in the field then. We loaded it up straight from the combine around 5 o clock that evening. Got rejected the next morning for grain wevil. And then got told by the merchant that we haven’t cleaned the store out properly.
Could have been weevil in lorry

Add abattoirs aswell
cousin sent 4 cattle in the other week
3 off them killed out the wights he expected
1 was massively lighter
when he challenged them on the wight they said it was right
It was only when he showed them a photos of each of the cattle on weybridge before they left farm that they came back to say some in the office put the wrong wight in

Seems like was in spec for germination during the months you sold it for.

Germination will only ever reduce as time goes on.

So of the picked it up after the contract period, then it's their fault.

I agree with the sentiment but isn't it the case that germination can come back in the spring?

Doesn't really in my experience. Kept malting barley 12 months a few times now and still 98-99% germination.

You have to move it to wake it up/break dormancy. We ran it through mobile drier but went in okay.

Ah right, OK, I'll listen to your experience. Don't grow malting barley, so guess I should have kept quiet, and not guessed!!

Hoping for a bit of help and guidance.

We had a Nov- Dec malting barley contract that got partly collected in Feb. The December loads that we loaded had no issues. Some Feb loads failed for germination. Same barn, same land grown on. Rejected loads tested 99% germination at the feed house they were tipped at.

Independent testing took 27 days to be done- unsurprisingly they failed the 98%. Stoppages £12k.

Looking to take them to arbitration. Anyone know if any contacts or should I just use my solicitors as essentially it’s contract law?
Just curious if you took any action and had success? We are currently having issues with a produce of area contract, merchant is dictating how many tonnes we should have. Dealt with the merchant for years but the first time we have questioned something they have turned very nasty and want to take us to arbitration. Wonder if possibly the same merchant as one of their specialist areas is malting barley!!!!

That's not good. They think you under or over produced?

They are saying we don't have enough tonnage for the area. We were hit with a lot of heavy rain May/June time and they went flat. My contract was produce of area. This they threatening arbitration as we don't have the tonnage in the shed that they say we should have. I can't see anything on their terms about a minimum tonnage requirement for oats (there is however one on their malting barley contracts for produce of area so beware!)
